Yeah, I probably was being harsh. ^_^ I love my Media100 really,
and Daniel seemed pretty clued up, just some of his co-workers weren’t.

I think Media100 sponsored or subsidised their exhibiting, so Cypher were moreorless their representation at the show.

Was impressed with the Avid reseller, but not because of a flashy stand. Just the fact the guy guides you through the programme, and gave me a good overview, which I didn’t get with Media100. But again, it was redundant anyway, since I already knew Media100 and it’s so easy too. =) So rather than ask too much about it, I just sat down with it right away, and had a good go. ^_^.

So, yeah, sorry for sounding harsh – probably just the train trip back and subsequent lack of sleep, making me grumpy ^_^. But I do still think the staff could have done proper presentations of the product.
Then again, they may have done with other people who were newer to it than me, I wouldn’t know. I was only at the show for 2-3 hours.

Already got a DVD VCR and have been playing out via S-Video for the past year or so.

Now I’ve a 2hour 30min production I need to make about 10-20 copies of and post out. So either I’ll do one recording to the DVD VCR and then hope my SuperDrive could duplicate it (which software would be best for that?), or perhaps I can burn to disc via the Mac in the first place, and cut out the VCR. It is kinda annoying waiting 2hrs30mins for a programme to finish playing out.
Further down the line some menu design would be nice,
right now, for these 10-20, just doesn’t matter – they’re just trade previews, although chapter marks for every 10-15mins would be good, as people will want to skim through it rather than watch all 2 and a half hours of it.

BitVice looks beyond my budget atm.
Can I get away with Compressor or Cleaner 6?
And the only DVD Studio Pro I have is Version 1.1 on OS9. Think I’ll be fine with that, despite it’s age? Or am I better off using the less professional, but more up-to-date OSX software I mentioned?

So I guess it boils down to two questions:
Basic duping of a DVD VCR burnt disc, would be best in what app?
Is my old OS9 DVD Studio Pro still the safe bet for proper authoring with menus?
Oh – and are Compressor or Cleaner 6 gonna be okay in BitVice’s absense?

Of course, maybe these are stupid questions. When I get my drive, I guess I can experiment with the different apps and see which yeilds the best result. That said, advice could still save me time.

I have Cleaner 6 on my first Mac,
my second Mac has Compressor, haven’t checked which version.
I don’t seem to have BitVice.

It was my understanding whichever programme you use for encoding, you still need to burn using an authoring programme.

I haven’t tried to run Producer on my System, as I’ve only a G4, and ran into problems with previous SW demos because I didn’t have enough RAM [one demo I downloaded needed at least a gig, and I only had 512mb or whatever]. So I personally, am too inexperienced to have many more suggestions, but I’m confident others on this forum, or indeed, the Media100 people you’ve emailed will get back to you, and provide some better advice.

Aside from that, only general knowledge type ideas – i.e. putting the old SW demo you’ve got in a different folder or location that won’t conflict, checking there’s no conflict of codecs anywhere, or trying to run/install it under a new OSX login, incase some user-preference settings are to blame. But I’m pretty ignorant, so perhaps your best bet is to wait for someone who has more experience with Producer and OSX (I’m using Media100i on OS9!) to reply to this thread.

Off the top of my head…double check it’s the trial version for PowerPC and not the trial version for Intel Machines….?

Nope. NMR will *not* have Media100 at the show, which is a damn shame, since nowerdays all it would take is to bring a Laptop with Producer, lol. ^_^.

=P I actually have zero interest in Broadcast LIVE now that Media100 isn’t gonna be there. It was so exciting to hear about the NAB stuff, that I just assumed I could catch up come Broadcast LIVE, but apparently not. Oh well, am broke atm anyway, so can’t afford to buy any of their new systems now anyway, but it’s always nice to have a play about with a system, and see what I’m missing. ^_^.

Despite not having a reason to be there anymore, =P, I may still pop along on the 19th, as I arranged something else in London that evening, thinking I could kill two birds with one stone, so I’ll be in London anyway.
So I’ll probably pop along to Earls Court 2, Tuesday afternoon, and have a wander round.

I’ve an older version of M100 so don’t know if it’s entirely the same, but basically, when you drag an arrow down away from the timeline, you’ll see a little red “X” appear over it, when you release at that point, it’ll delete. You can do the same thing with volume nodes.

Apologies if reverting to an earlier quicktime is easier said than done.
All I meant was, to try the free suggestions before paying for tech support. I use OS9 more than OSX, so I may have been out of my depth, although you may find some help on Apple’s Quicktime support page:

If reverting to an earlier quicktime is proving problematic, how about setting up a new login and seeing if M100 will run via that? That was the other suggestion someone made, that should be easy to try out.

If neither approach works, I’d give Dave an email.
