January 20, 2015 at 12:07 am in reply to: 2008 Media 100 HD Mac Pro DVD Rendering & Missing VideoGosh! That sounds scary!
I had a few problems in the past like that:
With Media 100 Suite 1.0.1:
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/4/865774
And Media 100 Suite 1.1.3:
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/4/867234I remember I seemed to work around it somehow – if I recall correctly, it was by making some minor change in the window that appears after double clicking your clip or effect, and then clicking apply again before clicking render. If doing a Boris Red effect, you can save the effect in Boris, and if using ColorFX you can save presets. Doing this means, if it renders black, and you have to try again, you don’t have to start from scratch with your effect or colorfx.
If something has rendered black, the rendered version will be in the rendered media subfolder of your project’s media folder. This means two things – firstly, you can try importing the clip in, and seeing if the clip itself really is black (according to my old forum post a while back – I actually found the rendered clips to be fine – oddly enough).
Secondly, it means your original footage before rendering, is still in the main folder. You may be able to swap out black bits in your timeline, with the original footage again, and try again. If things are buggy, you can try in future to render as you go, that way – if something renders black, you can quickly undo and try to render it a second time, whilst you’re there working on that transition or color fx. You can save colour fx presets to save you losing work.
I’m not a knowledgeable expert like Floh – he may be able to help you solve your bug.
All I can say, is, that your original media should still be somewhere in your media folder on your hard drive, [or perhaps you also have the original clips in a bin window somewhere?], and I once had a rendering quirk in Suite 1.1.3 that I managed to find a way of working around – I haven’t used 1.1.3 for a while now, so can’t remember the specifics.
If the problem persists, you could try contacting Boris FX to see if they know of a way to solve such a bug, or can give you a deal on the latest software (2.1.5), which would hopefully be bug free (you can test it with a 14 day trial – but be careful, in that projects saved with newer versions of Media100 won’t open in older versions – and be sure to make sure auto-save is disabled, so you you don’t accidentally save anything you need to use in your older HDe software. Best bet is usually to start a new project when using the demo software, or make copies of your old project, before tinkering with it).
Anyway…now I’m waffling, ^_^.
I’m a few days late to the conversation. Perhaps there’s been some good news in the meanwhile, and you’re no longer having this bug? =).
Hope everything worked out okay. -
At least we know now, a Yosemite version may be released, following Floh’s January 2015 testing.
Just a bit of a shame we’ve had to wait, when you consider Apple released a Developer’s preview of Yosemite six months before the public release, so companies could get their apps ready, =P.
-_-…but then I’m just gutted I’ve missed Boris FX’s Black Friday deals, ;-).
=D And am super happy at Floh’s news, ^_^. [Even though it may require one to cross their fingers a bit longer still, ^_^…]

December 23, 2014 at 6:05 pm in reply to: How to Open or View Old Media 100 Media FilesI quickly downloaded them, and immediately noticed their icons don’t automatically switch to Media100 icons, like my other M100 footage on this computer, and indeed, when trying to open them in Quicktime Player 7 I have no luck.
Are we concluding the files are corrupt in some way?
Weren’t there additional (usually invisible) files with information on the files, that allowed them to be read by Mac OS and so forth? Perhaps these are missing. This often happens when files are transferred via a PC or something else that doesn’t recognise the additional data Apple stores with each file.
I’m just guessing/wondering of course, =S.You posted in October.
Have you had any luck since? -
[Marcus Warren] “BorisFX has the resources to acquire Imagineer Systems but can’t update Media 100 to work with Yosemite. We live in interesting times.”
This made me lol, ^_^.

Just showing off these vids I did before, – although you may all have seen ’em by now.

Latest is…
BorisFX are considering updating Media100 for Yosemite after Floh had a little chat, =).
In the meanwhile, you can get it running on Yosemite by manipulating the System Version plist file.
Martin has upgraded his 844x to Quicktime 7.7.6 without experiencing any adverse effects yet – he claims rendering times are quicker:
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/95/855649#855654Jim Wisemen just joined our Facebook group. I thought the name sounded familiar so went to check the COW forum, and he last contributed to a thread on what Thunderbolt enclosures you could put your drives in, for use with the new Mac Pros, =). Not only your drives, but also AJA cards and so forth:

You’re in that thread too Gerry, so it’s probably not news to you, ^_^.There’s a Media 100 qx CD or something on ebay atm.
And a Media 100 HDX too, =). Oooh!Black Friday saw 30% off all BorisFX software including the Boris Boxset which includes Media 100, =P. Back to normal prices now though I’m afraid!
This gamer found a way to record an OS9 computer screen:

The software is here:
https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/snapz-pro-2I’m gonna see if I can use it to record my Media100i setup. =).
Martin posted tonnes of images of his 844x…!! O_O..
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.966644770031693And you showed off some cool rigs, =).
https://www.facebook.com/groups/Media100Suite/permalink/966935100002660/I’m gonna make some new vids – maybe even read another chapter of John Buck’s Timeline again in a few weeks. Plus I’ve got another five or so people to invite to the Media100 group, so hopefully they’ll introduce themselves and post interesting stuff, =).
I’ve just been a little busy, so haven’t got round to stuff yet, ^_^. But will soon, =D.
Thanks for the new thread, =). Always good to get a weekly fix of Media100 natter, =D.
