    Thanks Richard,

I don’t have After Effects, but will look into it.

Many thanks, Enzo. Your suggestion worked and, just as importantly, explained the situation so I now understand the idea behind it. Much appreciated! Andrew.

Thank you for your reply, Enzo. Yes, what you’re saying makes sense, but I don’t know if it applies to my problem. I would think that 15 seconds of clip on each side of the transition is enough for a cross dissolve to occur, especially the default cross dissolve of 1 second?

Thanks for your reply, Tom. I’ve been following a training video I bought with FCE2, which is why I can’t work out why it’s not doing as the video shows it should. In answer to your points, I have named all the markers, but even before they’re named, the unnamed overlay does not appear. The marker is being applied to the Timeline ruler by selecting a point on the timeline, then hitting ‘m’ on the keyboard twice (the first marking the point, and the second bringing up the Edit Marker dialog box). Re. your final point, I should have been more precise. I’m trying to set sequence markers, not clip markers. The training video and manual say that these are applied in the Timeline and show in the Canvas.
