Can anyone tell me how to get marker overlays to show in the Canvas? They’re supposed to appear in a translucent grey box when the playhead is over the marker point, but I’m not seeing them. I have named my markers and selected View > Show Overlays from the main Option bar, as well as from the drop-down box on the Canvas itself (the list where you can select “Image + Wireframe”).

If you didn’t give the marker a name it should way something like marker # when the playhead is paused directly over it. Use Shift- up and down arrows to go to the next or previous marker to make sure you’re exactly on the marker. Also make sure the marker is applied to the timeline ruler not to the clip. Clip markers don’t appear in the canvas only in the viewer.

    All the best,

Thanks for your reply, Tom. I’ve been following a training video I bought with FCE2, which is why I can’t work out why it’s not doing as the video shows it should. In answer to your points, I have named all the markers, but even before they’re named, the unnamed overlay does not appear. The marker is being applied to the Timeline ruler by selecting a point on the timeline, then hitting ‘m’ on the keyboard twice (the first marking the point, and the second bringing up the Edit Marker dialog box). Re. your final point, I should have been more precise. I’m trying to set sequence markers, not clip markers. The training video and manual say that these are applied in the Timeline and show in the Canvas.

They should be there. You might try closing the application and trashing the preferences files to reset the application and see if they reappear after that.

    All the best,
