Hmmm. As F. Scott Fitzgerald says “Our vitality shows not only in our ability to persist but also in the ability to start over.”

Time to think this one from a different angle since I’m not a 3D-er.

    Thanks, Dave.

Maltaanon has a tutorial where he does this. In fact he adds clouds and displacement for earth’s uneven texture. You can find the night shot of the entire earth flattened (and day shots too) on NASA’s website.

    Here’s the tut.

  • Problem solved. What solved it was to uninstall and then reinstall the IO software. The reinstall was the exact same version. So who knows why it decided to stop working. Go figure. Good waste of 3 hours though. Ha.

What In/Out device are you using? If it’s an AJA they have a good set of FAQs on their website that might answer your problem.

Seems to me that if you flip the image 180 you now have reversed your fields which would create jaggies. Maybe I’m wrong, but try putting a swap fields filter on it. Unless of course you shot progressive…

I haven’t tried it, but could you use Diskwarrior to look for and recover the missing file?

July 16, 2008 at 10:14 pm in reply to: Sequence Not Found Error Out of Memory

    Andrew,
Fret not. There are a few things to try to fix this problem. In my experience it happens when the project has gotten too big. How big is your project file? If it’s over 150MB it’s probably too big. Another reason can be that your drives while still having lots of space left do not have large chunks available for renders. Rule of thumb that I’ve heard around the COW is to leave 10-15% of your drive free.

Now, to fix the situation at hand. Are you working on a program? If so, create a separate project for each act. Make a new sequence and copy and paste from your other project into the new one. Its important to copy and paste, not drag the other sequence into a new one like a nest. Do this for all of your acts. Once you have them all at their final stage. Make a new project, call it “Compiled” or some such and NOW you can place those sequences into a new one for output.

In regard to renders. I recommend breaking them down to smaller chunks so they can find a home on your drives. If I attempt to render a whole sequence, it usually results in a crash. Remember to save after each successful render.

Finally, I recommend cleaning your drives when your done with a project so when you start a new one you have fresh large chunks of space available.

July 16, 2008 at 10:03 pm in reply to: Card/Breakout box for FC Pro

    Hi Leigh.
What is your budget for this? There are different answers for different budgets and uses. I use the AJA IO which has plenty of inputs and outputs. I’ve got a DVD, VHS, Tape Deck, Digibeta Deck, NTSC monitor and full audio board hooked up to it. If you need anything additional you can add switcher to it. I work in 10 bit uncompressed SD and the throughput on this device keeps up just fine. If you’re considering an HD model, the guy from AJA adviced me to go with the Kona card instead of the IO HD if I am solely working from a tower (not a laptop). I’ve had the AJA IO for 5 or six years now without a problem so it’s built to last, more than I can say for the Mac’s themselves.
    Good luck,
    Andrea

Wow Reid. Thank you for a very informative explanation of audio. Being a video person I had no clue how it works. It definitely sounds like that is the problem. Is there a way for me to test the audio card? I would imagine if there is a problem it will persist when it comes time to output to tape.
And do you have any recommendations for a specific card to replace it? I’m on a first generation Intel Dual Core Mac.
    Thanks again.
