Thanks John. Indeed the transparency grid did not end up in the final render. It must have been my eyes playing tricks on me late at night.

But I was surprised to find some of my white areas where I used lights or shine or Lux actually had some transparency to them even though their opacity was at 100% I discovered this by checking the alpha channel.

If you know of any of them, I’d love to hear. But as far as I can find, they are no longer in production. You can only find stickers or rubber keyboard covers.

Dave has a point about the multitude of shortcuts. But every program has these. So I thought I’d figure a way to do the main shortcut and the command key shortcut on each key.

What I wonder is if I’d run into legal trouble with Adobe if I used their icons for the shortcuts.

    Let’s keep this conversation going…

Woops. I feel like an idiot. Even thought the layer was named ambient, it was a parallel light. DUH.

November 12, 2007 at 2:55 pm in reply to: Panasonic VTR Trouble

I’m referring to the AJ D750.
And for a lot of us poorer folks out there, there are a lot of these decks and others from Panasonic (D650, etc) that are still in use. Just searching the COW and other forums I’ve seen this issue come up from a lot of people. Once someone asks the question, it is usually followed by 5 or 6 people saying, “hey did you find a solution? I’m having the same problem.”

I have nothing against AJA. I love my little helper. But it sure would help if there was some mention in the FAQ at least to ease your mind that you’re not going crazy when you’re doing everything right but you still get an error message. I would think AJA would rather not have to answer this question and send emails with the patch multiple times.

Luckily, someone out there sent me the patch over the weekend so I could load and be ready for edit Monday morning. (Thank you John P!)

Thanks to one of the cows out there. I got the file.

Is there some way we can upload that file to a place everyone can access?

November 11, 2007 at 5:07 pm in reply to: Best setup for audio with Aja IO

I think Warren is probably right. There should be a standard offset default in the frame offset preference. If you shift your audio back by that amount it should be back in sync.

This is from the AJA FAQ if this helps:

Q: What is the correct “Frame Offset” I should use in Final Cut Pro to adjust for latency through Io?
A: In order to compensate for the latency you need to change the Playback Frame Offset in Final Cut Pro HD ( System Settings > Playback Control > Frame Offset) to a value of

Now there’s an idea. I was on to the right path thinking I could cut and paste position keyframes into a solid and then paste them back. But realized this only works for a motion path.

November 9, 2007 at 7:57 pm in reply to: nVidia 7800GT / Quadro FX 4500

Wow thank you all for your feedback, especially about the possibility of these cards not being able to run on the MacPro.

I currently have the nVidia GForce 7300GT. Where could I find out what cards would be compatible and work with Rosetta AND will also work with AE8 when the time comes to upgrade to 8.

Being stuck in 7 sucks, but it has to stay that way for a bit. I discovered the Cycore fx problems the hard way this weekend when I was working on a G5 at home and then opened the file on my Intel.

November 7, 2007 at 1:28 am in reply to: HOW TO USE AE7 WITH INTEL MACS

Silly me. Yes I meant 59.94.

FYI, I rendered this :15 open last night and it took 17 hours! But, hey, it never quit on me, so that’s a blessing.

I’m sure its the lights and motion blurs and nested pre-comps, etc. Though I have to say, most of the thing is vector art in HD pre-comps in an HD comp. You wouldn’t think it would be so RAM intensive.

Looking into networking all our computers so I can render at night using our small group of Macs as a render farm.
