Hello Fred,

Kirk already mentioned my XFX tool and that’s the only way to do trouble shooting.

That a plug in shows up in the fx browser of FCPX doesn’t mean anything in your case.
Re-installing whatever doesn’t help either – its just a waste of time (in your case).

Export a XML of the project.
This XML will show you where FCPX expect to find your plugin.
If you don’t like to use my software, do a text search in the XML for the plugin in the “resources” section of the XML.
Once found look at the path shown there. It will (in your case) not fit the path of the fx shown in the fx browser of FCPX.
Fix one of those.

For any experience with the the app ask the production team of “Focus”.
They used it on a daily base while producing the movie.

There is a kind of common problem creating “Template Paths” manually.

In Finder a path a) like “~/Movies/Motion Templates/Titles/myTitle” and a path b) like “~/Movies/Motion Templates/Titles/myTitle” obviously look like the same.
If you have a detailed view (for example pressing cmd-I) you will see the difference.
Path a): “~/Movies/Motion Templates/Titles/myTitle”
Path b) “~/Movies/Motion Templates.localized/Titles.localized/myTitle”

Path b) is be the correct one.
Final Cut needs “/Motion Templates.localized/TemplateTypea.localized/” path (i.e. the ‘.localized’ extension).

So check the paths you created.

Last I tried (early v12/beta v12) it worked fine.
Reason I tried though was not to test this but transport of xml subtitles.

Maybe I’m too old (fashioned).
Using FCP(X) is wasted time.
Using Compressor is the same including maybe a generation quality loss.

I always use QT 7orWhatever Player to create a ref movie. Create a droplet which might include the command to import the result into FCP(X) and it’s done in a second and there won’t be any worries.

For me the proxy stuff doesn’t fit my personal needs, but it is just me working with a lot of graphics.

“As always” you can use an XML – BUT only if Fcpx has it in it’s internal data base for the project.
Fcpx is very picky reconnecting files.

Finally there is no need to re-compress any file format.
Once you know what you are doing just copy a part of a stream, place it into an empty container and save that part as a physical copy. Only thing which might happen (GOP files) is that the first frame of the file is different from the original file since it could be a new I-frame.
The result is a 1:1 trimmed file.

Any serious software should behave like this – at least the apps I build behave like that.

I really can understand why you need this kind of functionality.
And you’re right XML is the way to go. But as mentioned it’ way more complicated than it looks at the first glimpse.
My biggest concern are key-framed effects/data.

Hello Clyde,

I stopped my CC thing a while ago and so I’m not really up to date.

In PPro create a CC (closed caption) track. Then enter your text there. When done export the CC track as SCC or DFXP file.
For these files there are lot of (free) converters to a timed text file you can use with Excel.

You can automate this and the titles are always editable.
