Even the free version allows to convert a feature length film to open captions to test the timing.

Jeremy is right.

If you have a 48 kHz audio matching a 24 fps video the obviously has 48.000 samples per second.
If you slow down the video to 23.976 the audio want match – change the rate to 47.952 samples per second and everything will be fine. But if you need 48.000 Hz the file must be re-sampled.

Type the “sentence” word by word, each word delimitre by a double-return:

Open the app. In “Preferences” go “Marker & Chapter Setup”, enter 20 for “Reading Speed” and 0 for “Min. Duration”.
In the main window select “FCPX Titles” and one of the “10.1 Textup Regular…” templates matching your frame rate.
Set “Conversion Options” to “Template”
Under menu “File” select “Open other…” -> “Untimed Text”
Save the XML and import into FCPx.

The free version allows 50 “words”, so you might to split the text.

Then check the preferences.
The path for auto-save must exist otherwise set a new one – or deselect all the “auto things”
Make sure all captions are connected to the primary storyline.
