All the posts above assume you have a authoring or burning problem. Why do we look at your computer for a minute? If they play fine on DVD set-top players then there should be nothing wrong with your disk.
About your computer DVD player. Can you play other DVD’s on your computer? Commercial ones and ones you burned? How do you watch DVD’s on your computer? What software?
I use Cyberlink DVD here but there’s others.

What kind of burner and media are you using? Also what DVD player do you use in your computer? Your problem suggests to me that something’s wrong with your player in your computer.Can you insert the DVD in your computer, go to windows explorer or my-computer (I assume you’re using Windows and not a MAC) and see the directory structure on the DVD?
Has this happened may times of just once? It could be a bad DVD disk also.

I’m using an off-the-shelf HP a844n P4 3.GHz w/1Gb Ram 250gb SATA plus 2 200gb SATA’s installed extra. Have 2 Maxtor One-touch 200gb Firewire external HD’s. Less than $1000 at Best Buy, not including the Maxtor’s, which I already had and Vegas 5.0d zips through its work just fine. I’m not into HD though. Also still using my original 17″ View Sonic monitor so didn’t get a monitor with the machine.
It replaced a custom, home built machine that was 2.3GHz P4. I can’t see paying $3000 + for a computer personally.
You need a fast machine with a lot of RAM. Vegas is not graphic card dependent.
/another personal opinion for ‘desktops’, stay away from Sony.

You didn’t mention what operating system you’re using but last I checked Spinrite is only FAT which is Win98. Won’t work with 2000 or XP. Found out after I bought it.
Using Registry Mechanic here along with AVG free Anti Virus. Got rid of Zone alarm when I put in XP Pro. Same with the new upgrades of Ad/Subtract Pro and Spy Subtract from Intermute. It was getting so bad I couldn’t even access my email or my own web site, and those companies couldn’t/wouldn’t help me get the new setting right. So out they came and when it came time to renew, I said no. Before XP I swore by these but now? Forget it. Using Aluria Spyware remover, Spybot and somwething called Cookie Wall which was free. And I like Perfect Disk over Disk Keeper. Never could find out if Disk Keeper defrags the swap file off-line. Their big advertising is set-it-and-forget-it. I don’t leave my computers on 24/7. I most always defrag after capturing video and before rendering. Time of MY choosing and my own option settings. And Perfect Disk will defrag in the background so sometimes I can do some work while it’s defragging. Mostly I don’t as I have 2 computers on a network. My internet everything else mach8ine is seperate from my editing machine.

I also have 2 Maxtor One-Touch 200gb external drives and have had the same problems. At times, one or both don’t even show up in windows explorer. I think it is the cables. Usually I just pull the cables for a minute and plug them back in and no more problems for a while.It hasn’t happened for some time now, but I don’t capture to those drives anymore. I just use them for storage and completed projects freeing up my internal drives. I have 3 SATA drives in my new editing computer. the original 250g that came with the machine and I bought 2 200gb drives for files and capture.

Vegas works great on my laptop. Got it there for my field work.
I have a Toshiba A75 S229. P4 538. However I purchased an external Hitachi TravelStar 5k80 USB/Firewire HD 80gb 5200rpm and an enclosure for capturing. That works great also. It’s powered by USB abd data through the Firewire.
With DV Rack, I capture from my Sony VX2000 directly throught the laptop to the hard drive. Tape is for backup.
I had quite a large post with the URL’s of where I got the stuff. Do a search on laptop or external portable HD

I would say to use a PAL template to print to tape then but I haven’t done it. I have a program something call Atlantis or something like that that does PAL to NTSC conversions and corrects the frame size too. They got a web site..
https://www.dvfilm.com/atlantis/I have a friend who produces videos in PAL format and I was going to partner with him and make NTSC versions. I was goping to get a small used PAL camcorder and capture the video into DV Film Atlantis to convert to NTSC before bringing it into Vegas for editing. But I haven’t had the time to do all that. I’m retiring in 15 months so then I’ll ahve time for that stuff.
2. If it’s going to be broadcast or shown on TV, then yes I’d watch the broadcast colors very carefully. I had a few post on that subject a while back and those post got quite big. Like use 16 for black and 235 for white. I had them for red and blue also because the VHS tape I was producing for a company had bleeding on the red’s and blues. They didn’t notice it but I did.
I also have some guidelines for other colors as I printed the posts. I’d have to find them. Do a search on broadcast colors and see if some of my old postings show up.

Just a thought but do you defrag all your drives before rendering? I’ve found that solves a lot of problems. Even some you woudn’t think about.

Once you’re finished, you can click “save-as” and check the box “copy-and-trim-media” . Select a folder and Vegas will save only the cuts and stuff you actually used in you project.
When I’m finished with a project, I save the VEG file along with the sfk (audio)files. I have the original tape so I can re-capture it if necessary. The VEG file has all your information about the cuts, FX etc. Then I delete the original captured file freeing up a lot of space.
