Now if I could find one that removes programs as well as entries in the Add/Remove Program folder won’t remove. I’ve got an entry in there and the program’s long gone! 😉

Also IMHO USB-2 is not the best for video work. My external HD’s on my editing computer are FireWire, and on the laptop eSATA both of which are much faster than USB.

Does your external HD have a FW connection option? I’ve never encountered the problem you mentioned with FW – eSATA

I use the USB connection on my internet computer for my externals but I don’t do any video work on that machine.

Ha! What a loaded question as I have both and they’re both invaluable to me! However, look them both over and see which one has the most features you’d use and get that one.

Both have some features that the other doesn’t have but they’re catching up to each other. Even between features you’ll find that each program has it’s own way of scripting and choices of doing things. I like those choices. For example for photo montages the last time I did it, I used UltimateS. There’s video tutorials over at Vasst and I’m sure Ed has a video tutorial for Excalibur as well.

I like them both.

Also you can just crop the video, put it on the track above and do a picture-in-picture. Another way is to use Vegas’s Bezier masking to cut out the head.

Also as far as Squeeze goes, what kind of AVI are you trying to bring into Squeeze? I render to DV-AVI and I have no problems at all with AVI’s in Squeeze 4.5 Power Pack.

What kind of clips are they? (format) Do you happen to have a mix of say avi, wmv, mpg, m2t’s etc?

My 2¢ worth here, you don’t want to reduce your photos to 600 x 800 because you won’t be able to pan/crop. Like John says the ideal size is 1440 x 960 and you’re not far off that, so leave ’em alone.

With so may photos, might I suggest you look into either or both, UltimateS by Vasst;

Also at Vasst is Still motion that’s just a photo montage plugin. Go to the Plugin’s and scroll down a bit.

Both have great scripts for automating slide shows with a lot of choices.

I haven’t done a slide show in quite a while so I don’t remember if either or both will reduce Interlace flicker for you as well, but you may have to right click on each, select ‘switches’-‘reduce interlace flicker’.

I have used both plugins and believe me they will save you hours of editing.

There’s a free piece of software called G-spot that should give you all the info you need about a video clip. Format, Specs, Etc.

About the only way to do this that I know of would be to put the second video on the track above. I could play with the opacity but to really do it right you’re probably going to have to chroma key or mask out everything on the upper track so it’s all transparent except for the 2nd you. Normally you’d do a green screen for the second video.

Hopefully someone else knows another way to do it.
