    Slideshow Question
    Hi All, thanks for your help,

    I need some clarification on a few pints in a slideshow. I am a beginner so be kind with your answers. First let me explain what I am trying to do, then you can tell me what I am doing wrong. I have 600 plus still pictures. I want to make a slideshow to be shown on TV. In dvd format

    The still pictures are jep The image width is 1488, the image height is 1128. Which I understand is a way to high.

    When I open a new project (file/new) I set template (video) to NTSC DV (720×480, 29.970 fps. Width at 720 Height 480. (720×480) I then set the “Full resolution rendering quality to “best” The Deinterlace method is at “blend fields”

    In the Audio I change only the Sample rate (Hz) to 48000.

    Now my question is this, When I bring the jep pictures into Sony timeline The Preview window shows that the project is 720x480x32 29970. Preview is 360x240x32,x29970. Frame is 886. Display is 327x24x32. But when I pull up properties on the timeline (right click) It tell me that the Type of picture is jep. I need to know is using this template, does it change the picture on the time line to 720×480 or does the picture remain the same as the jep setting at 1480×1128?

    Also will jep work with Sony 8 or should I convert all the pictures to png?

    Another thing, how do I change the individual picture from 720×480 to 800×600, will Sony allow me to do this or do I have to use a outside program such as Paint Shop Pro? I know changing it will reduce interlace flicker, when I use Pan/Crop.

    I have Mr. Spotted Eagle book, I would be lost without, seems I am lost with it. Also I have been reading early post concerning this subject. I think I understand it, but I am I just to dump or hard headed to believe each picture has to be address individual.

    Anyway thanks for the help, you do a wonderful service for us, old folks trying to learn this stuff. Thanks again.

    > The still pictures are jep The image width is 1488, the image height is 1128. Which I understand is a way to high.

    Actually, that’s not a bad resolution to use. I generally go with twice my output resolution so if I’m working with DV that would be 1440×960 so your current resolution is fine.

    > Now my question is this, …I need to know is using this template, does it change the picture on the time line to 720×480 or does the picture remain the same as the jep setting at 1480×1128?

    The picture stays the same. Don’t get the project settings confused with the media settings. The media stays what it is and gets converted on-the-fly as needed by the project. Normally you would set your project up at the same resolution you will render/output to. The media can be any resolution and Vegas will conform it.

    > Also will jep work with Sony 8 or should I convert all the pictures to png?

    JPG’s work fine. Converting to PNG won’t buy you anything.

    > Another thing, how do I change the individual picture from 720×480 to 800×600, will Sony allow me to do this or do I have to use a outside program such as Paint Shop Pro?

    If you want to physically change the pictures then you must use an image editor like Paint Shop Pro. But there is no need to do this for your image size. Just drop them on the timeline and start editing.

    Hi
    My 2¢ worth here, you don’t want to reduce your photos to 600 x 800 because you won’t be able to pan/crop. Like John says the ideal size is 1440 x 960 and you’re not far off that, so leave ’em alone.

    With so may photos, might I suggest you look into either or both, UltimateS by Vasst;
    https://www.vasst.com/search.aspx?category=VASST+Plugins&sort=priority

    Also at Vasst is Still motion that’s just a photo montage plugin. Go to the Plugin’s and scroll down a bit.

    Excalibur;
    https://www.jetdv.com/excalibur/multicam.php

    Both have great scripts for automating slide shows with a lot of choices.

    I haven’t done a slide show in quite a while so I don’t remember if either or both will reduce Interlace flicker for you as well, but you may have to right click on each, select ‘switches’-‘reduce interlace flicker’.

    I have used both plugins and believe me they will save you hours of editing.

    Good luck

    Ha! What a loaded question as I have both and they’re both invaluable to me! However, look them both over and see which one has the most features you’d use and get that one.

    Both have some features that the other doesn’t have but they’re catching up to each other. Even between features you’ll find that each program has it’s own way of scripting and choices of doing things. I like those choices. For example for photo montages the last time I did it, I used UltimateS. There’s video tutorials over at Vasst and I’m sure Ed has a video tutorial for Excalibur as well.

    I like them both.

    Thanks Allen. I did mean to put you on the spot. I am just now, only a little bit getting to know Vegas 8. I will look at UltimateS. But for the time being I have enough to learn. To old take all this at one time.

    Thanks, again
