Sorry, I must have been going too fast….
Let’s say you actually output a master without the intro and outro adjustment as a clip.
then use the clip as a source adding only the intro and outro….
as needed…
not ideal….but it should work….

been a while since I’ve used XD Cam. Are they natively mp4 files?
1) what happens if you use content browser and place the material on your local drive? Does Ppro still behave slowly?
2) if you you are pulling the whole disc and not selects, is there a benefit to going thru Content browser? Does it do anything to the material (re-wrap it as a .mov)?
3) how do non XD Cam clips behave coming from the NAS?

2) now you are navigating to the NAS and trying to import the material into PPro?

The closest I can seem to get to this is working in a ripple mode in the trim window….but that’s still only stepping with audio….
AND…
the still need to make the timeline playhead follow loop playback in the trim window…
ugh…

on a lark try this….
select all the stair stepped clips….
copy
go to After Effects
make a comp that matches your resolution
paste
this will put all the clips in the COMP
now select all in the AE comp and COPY again….
now go back to Pro and paste into a Sequence…
I bet since there is no overlap…you get everything on V1….

Well…
Nesting is soft and uncommitted to a file…
so you can step into a nest and get to the sources…flattening, replaces the clip or nest with a new file….
flattening is just a single file…
so they are not exactly synonymous…

see if “Composite Preview during trim” is enabled.
if it is, try disabling it, and see if that helps…

The closest I can think of would be something like “Render and replace” as this would let you render used elements used to your local storage, but revert back to the network source at any point.
The problem with this is it’s not a great way to “start” a project.
It kind of assumes that you are have a timeline built already.Also Project manager could kind of do this as well…because it would let you copy material to your local drive and handle the relinking to local copies…..BUT it wouldn’t retain any link to the network original….
so this wouldn’t be bad for working local….but it might be bad if your files on the network weren’t pretty well organized if you want to link back to those at the end or don’t want replicate media unnecessarily…
what you are asking is to be able to switch link your clip to multiple locations…I’m not sure how easy this is…

Nesting = placing 1 more layers of one timeline into a sequence then using that as a clip in another sequence. All the sources of what you see in that “clip” (sequence) used in a sequence are still live, and require all the disk and processor power necessary to calculate the frames for playback. you can step into the nest (reopen the sequence) and make changes.
Flattening: if you have a NEST and you render and replace it, it becomes a new clip as a file written to the hard drive. in it’s “flat state” you can’t step into the nest…there is no nest…it’s just a clip.
Adobe’s render and replace gives the option of switching a source back from the flattened version to the unflattened state which might be a nest OR it might be the original unrendered media format of a single clip.
I use nests a lot with animation where you have several objects you want to move together….a 4 picture split is a classic example….scale and position the layers the way you want, so you can see everything…then nest them. now you can move the entire grouping with the single motion parameters in the sequenced clip in the timeline.
