    Hi Chris…

this is a really exciting post.

    Of the two solutions:

Premiere or FCP which did you choose and why?

I’m an ex-edit* editor and am learning Avid and Premiere right now.

I can easily see why, in terms of it’s solid feel and tool set, Avid continues to be used on feature films.

I’m not sure, in an editorial sense, I could say the same for Premiere. I like the way Premiere handles fx chains much better.

Image quality issues aside, I’m sure the BMD card is great regardless of it’s companion editing platform…

    your feedback is appreciated…

    Hi Les..

    Fancy meeting you here! 🙂

Can you elaborate on what you mean by use “super bin”?

i have super bin enabled and I use it as way way to keep my layouts organized (as opposed to opening every bin in it’s own window….)

    but maybe there’s a deeper function I’m missing….

Actually…I was shocked by this too…

coming from the world of edit*….

searching across multiple bins to generate a new resulting bin was pretty common…and extremely fast…

but sifting in Avid limits the scope to that particular bin…

the only way around it is to put everythingin one bin…

    and then sift within it…

but even Avid doesn’t reccommend that cause the DB get’s a little slow with big data sets….

September 9, 2005 at 5:48 pm in reply to: Capture handles….

    really….hmmm….I’m very surpirsed by this….

    Ok then….

    let me ask this question….

What do you see as the fastest technique to log non contiguous shots?

I found that subclipping on the fly during a capture works nicely, but it’s not great for non contiguous stuff because you end up capturing material you don’t want.

I’d like to be able to mark roughly (as quick as I can tap a key) and then add some pad

    to make sure I didn’t miss anything….

    see what I’m getting at?

    Thx…

August 24, 2005 at 1:00 pm in reply to: HD Pro Dual Link What’s RT in Premiere?

    Hi Luke…

    Thanks for the reply.

So the RT Preview I’m getting in HD is the best I’ll get regardless of throughput config?

    ok.

Why then do you have the option to tun on/off the Abort playback on dropped frames for HD?

Based on what you said, it will drop frames every time. This seems odd…

Unless the dialog was designed in a general way for both SD and HD….

    Thanks…

August 23, 2005 at 12:43 pm in reply to: Mediafiles format between Meridien and Adrenaline

    Hi…

My understanding is that with the exception of Avid’s new DNXHD format material….all legacy codecs are handled in software by Adrenaline (and dnx may be as well)…

what this means is YES….you should be able to real your old media just fine on an Adrenaline….
