As far as the keyframing on the timeline….

this can be done in PPro as well with the pen tool.

It has to be exposed on the right hand side of the track for the curves to be available on the clips.

Once that is done, a label will appear in the clip itself. For video clips the default is opacity for audio it’s volume, but it can be switched to any available standard parameter or filter added to the respected object. Full beziers are also available as a nice touch.

Keyboard shortcuts for the render area is Alt [ and Alt ]

Can’t speak much about the AME….I’ve not used it in a while. I have to admit Compressor is pretty sweet, but it needs watch folders in addition to droplets.

    Gabriel…

    1) Create a 9 layer timeline
    2) edit your cameras in sync to master audio on video tracks 1 – 6
    3) use SCALE and position to create a 6 picture split of all the layers
    4) use the title tool to create number lay overs that correspond to the track numbers over the video
    5) place title on video track 7
    6) Export your timeline as a clip
    7) place the exported clip on track 8
    8) Now you can see all your cameras in sync
    9) Reset the position and scale on the clips on tracks 1 – 6 so they’d all be full screen
    10) use the blade tool to split any clip and edit the split portion on track 9

using this method of setup you can use pretty much as many cameras as you want….

Stop using dynamic link this time.

render your comps in AE with meaningful names and use those clips to finish in PPro.

Another suggestions is to buy the Cienform Plugin for PPro.

Use that to convert your 5d media to the Cineform codec and then edit with that converted media in PPro.

My only comparison to this is working in AE and combustion.

3D plugins are very effective for simple extrusion and deformation.

The biggest appointment I always seem to find is that the plug in is it’s own 3d space which can contain one element. When multiple layers each cotaining 3d elements are included, the layers then to treat each other as layers.

So to add a bit of simple 3d to a comp it’s nice, but beyond even the most simple things, it’s usually a bit disappointing.

BORIS RED as a host application (as klunky as I think the application GUI is) actually handles this a bit better and you can do a bit more with it.

Is this to say that when you Press “Enter” nothing happens?

You might trick the software by adding an effect to each clip like a “Blur” and set it to Zero so it doesn’t do anything.

  • Sorry I was using that generically to mean recapturing based on your sequence.

  • Hi….

    1) Did you capture the footage as SD resolution, or HD footage on an SD timeline.
If HD footage on SD timeline, this is the best case, just copy and paste and check your settings for clip scaling. this can be mapped to a keyboard to shortcut to speed it up as well.

    2) If your batching your sources based on EDL…there is a BIG issue I’ve run into conforming HDV from source tape…which is it will digitize the correct time code, but every clip will visually be off +/- 5 frames in varying degrees. I think tis has to do with HDV GOP frame structure on tape, as full frame based media doesn’t suffer from this problem.

So I suggest exporting your SD project as a video file you can use on your HD timeline as a reference, it will greatly speed up slipping your HDV captures so they frame match (in clip content) with what you originally did in your SD edit.

    any questions, lemme know…

    Hi Spencer…

If what you are saying is that you GIF’s look OK in PPro and they animate in PPro ok, but you need to export them in a way that use as elements in PPro later, then really your choice for these “intermediate clips” is DV…because this will offer the compatibility with PPro that you can easily intyeract with and playback…the method of export is different between CS3 and CS4…but if you are able to get to AVI, then you can choose the Microsoft DV AVI as the codec.

I would note that the DV codec isn’t always the friendliest to graphics….An alternative might be to choose “uncompressed” from the AVI codecs…the problem with this is that these files are bigger in data size and require a bit more umph from you disk drive to play back during subsequent editing….but as a intermediate to use on your timeline, should hold up in terms of quality until you output your final MPEG file.

IF you have the option, remember that Sequences, even multi-layer sequences can be used “clips.” You simply take the sequence icon from the Project panel and lay it on the track of another sequence…

This let’s you leave then “unrendered” until the last “output” phase of your project.

You might consider this to try to preserve the quality as much as possible….

    How’s that?

    Hi Spencer…

If you know your destination format…MPEG 1 or 2…why are you rendering to an intermediate format?

Is this an element intended to be layered on some other element in another application.

Certainly wouldn’t recommend GIF for anything.

Also…AVI is a media container…within AVI there are a number of codec options….

so let’s talk about what you’re building in PPro, how you want to use it, then we can help you pick a format.

What resolution Premiere Project are you working in DV, HD, custom?
