with nothing selected you can type “+” (some number) enter

on the timeline you can’t numeric trim as clip edges aren’t selectable objects like they are in FCP.

you can trim number trim in the trim window.

there is also an extend edit function on the timeline as well….

It’s likely that your seqeuence is not the same setting as you source material.

try this….

take a source clip and drag it down to the new Items button at the bottom of the project panel.

this will make a sequence that is the same setting as the source….

then see if if your monitors match.

BEYOND THIS…its important to understand that your sequence needs to be set up to give you a clear path to the type of material you will ultimately be delivering.

but that’s a longer conversation….

Take a look at the mixer section of Premiere.

You should be able to set hard panning per track there.

Aren’t chapter markers timeline events?

Use the sequence from the XML export of FCP

but replace the edits with your exported uncompressed clip then send to Encore.
(matched to the edit of course)

that way you don’t have the CC hassle and you still get the markers…

Hi Matt…

this should be doable right now.
the specifics (codecs, etc) of the workflow will vary somewhat depending on the hardware you choose for capture from tape.

But for example, you should be able to capture long media clips in DV 25 (as an example)

Edit your sequence, then use PPro Project manager to create a new trimmed project and make it offline.
(this means the media is offline, not the project quality, Ironic I know)

then you can batch capture the clips in that project at the online resolution.

A word of caution. Make sure that all your frame rates and deck control are set up properly in the initial capture. I made that mistake once and had to manually recapture the online material. Not fun.

A suggestion is also to export a file of the offline edit and lay it in on the ONLINE timeline, just so you can do a visual match to your offline until you get a 100% confidence in your workflow.

there is no direct geometry support in motion.

Some plug-ins can fake it and even link to the motion camera, but there is no geometry that just lives inside motion natively.

Boris RED, Blue, Fusion, or Smoke….are really the tools that do this…

I think you mentioned you have existing media.

If you import the a clip into the project panel, then drag that clip down to the new item button….

It should make a new sequence based around the properties of that item.

Then will that play in RT?

you might also be able to see it’s properties so you can create a preset of a similar format.

then you nested timeline needs to be oversized in it’s resolution and not the same size as the destination timeline.
