    That doesn’t sound right.

GFX hardware should not be affecting decode or Pixel aspect ratio conversions.

That should be all all CPU.

GFX would be affecting FX over standard editorial.

Where does your media live on your system?

    Vince….

    with files so compressed….

Is spindle speed less of a concern when using ftg from DSLR’s?

    Well….

    If you were sneaky enough….

you could look thru your render files (sorted by date) and find import the previews directly into your bin.

Skipping the secondary export all together….

Then you could recut those into the timeline.

    That help?

    In PPro,

can you multi-select Sequences in the project panel
    File>Export AME
    then CHoose Send to Queue?

Just a guess….I’m not in front of it….

    Hi Joel…

    I’ll Jump in here….

It sounds to me like you want to create rendered intermediates during editing to use during editing?

So what your asking is, why, if you’ve already done the timeline renders, and then you use the AME does it require a render again?

So I’ll ask, what the intent of using the renders, is there a speed advantage during editing that you seeking or is the idea that you want to use these “exports” in another edit or an entirely different software?

But I think you and Jeff keep missing each other…

  • If you are using CS3, then I highly suggest you look at some method of transcoding your DLSR footage to a friendlier format.

Cineform is an excellent solution. Avid’s DNXHD codec is also a great choice.

The next question is what are you trying to deliver?

a Blu Ray Disc, a standard DVD, or a web video?
If the answer is anything that is not HD, then you best bet is to bring your HD footage down to SD in the transcode. Your system will likely be much happier during editing.

But if you must deliver HD….then keep your HD as HD (in the friendlier codec) and use PPro’s prefs to scale up the SD source material to match during edit.

    Does that help?

  • Alex…

thanks for the clarification on MXF server.

Honestly….I think a bit much is being made of working inside the same project.
Being able to share the assets centrally seems what most situations really call for.
and that’s really what Joseph is talking about as well.

  • Hi Owen,

    Assets can be shared.
However, working inside the same project simultaneously is not currently possible. That is definitely an Avid advantage.
There needs to to be a server side mechanism to control traffic so people don’t overwrite the same sequences in different states (Avid Bin locking) while working and that’s nonexistent in Adobe as of yet. A particular solution called MXF server might have that, but I’m not 100% sure.

It’s not big deal to merge projects though. So the work can be divided up and re-assembled relatively easily.

  • I’ve help spec, set up, and use PPro in both standard network and SAN environments, though this was primarily with CS3 and CS4.

What would you like to know?

Audio in PPro can be Mono, Stereo or 5.1.

So there is a mistmatch between your source type and the tracks you are tying to put it on.
