  • Well….

silly question….did u subscribe only to PPro CC or to the suite?

cuz u could simply go AE CC as well and that solves the problem.

  • My understanding…is versions need to be in lock step for this to work…

    Hi…

    just to chime in…

    My understanding is that:

    a) Pre CC if you Import and select an individual sequence media refs won’t be doubled, but reconnected.

    b) PPro CC + > if you use the media browser panel as your method of merging project assets asset entries will not be doubled, but reconnected.

    Thanks….

  • hmmmm….

sounds sort of like Media Player is associated with QT in Windows Prefs…and that’s getting in the way of AE…

on you desktop, if you right click a QT file and and choose “open with” from the context menu….

get to the dialog where it let’s u choose the application…

disassociate WMP as the default program to play .mov’s

Is this a new system or an update to WMP or OS where maybe you recently opened WMP for the first time and accidentally clicked thru the dialog boxes that associates WMP with all video media types?

  • thanks for the great walk through! very helpful!

[Walter Soyka] “In fact, I almost never cache in the background, because cache management is a black box that is not exposed to the user. Instead, I sometimes use Lloyd Alvarez’s BG Render script to make pre-renders or full-res proxies in the background, saving the output to the SSD. That allows me to actively manage my own little “cache” on my fastest disk. Your more organized artists might consider a similar technique.”

we are big fans of BG render script here. I do need to get my artists rendering pre-comps more, though…..they don’t always approach heavy things smart….and versions of things could be done faster…..

  • Hey Walter….

moving our group to AE CC and spec’ing some SSD drives.
I’ve read about and watched videos demonstrating GPC in AE, and am quite excited about it.

How much do artists have to think about it in using AE? Obviously if they can really get in a groove with its benefits and its philosophy it can be a huge time saver. But right out of the gate for the typical sloppy artist who’s not paying attention to efficient design techniques…how beneficial is it?

    I see your point….

While the assets aren’t big…compared to traditional NLE…..it can get time comsuming waiting for copies of things you don’t need to copy.

we don’t really use NLE’s around here. Our workflow is centered around building in Mo Graf, so Motion and AE is where 99.9% of the action is.

Without the option…a good answer is really to set up project spaces on the SAN as opposed to local machines….

then assets are all network shares/paths so then there’s no file collecting at all.

We’ll probably move that way in the long run….

    thanks for the assist.

    Hey Andy….

    We work on a SAN….

Some assets are library oriented and should stay in place in the san and NOT be replicated.

Some assets are created (like title PSD etc) and are specific to a project and thus are generally kept local to the machine the project was originally created on.

I’d like the option to say let’s make a collect, but explude elements I identify (my SAN/library elemets as an example) because when I open the project on the other machine, it will see the path anyway.

But these unique onces I want to include in the collect so that the persoon opening it on the other end will have them.

Also…right now (at least b4 M5) if any item in your media panel is not connected, you can not invoke a collect at all….motion just blinks at you until you reconnect all inlinked assets…

it would be nice if you didn’t have to do that….and it would just collect what Is connected….

    Does that help?

    thanks…

    Alex
