I had the same problem with my iMac late 2012 when launching Premiere Pro 2014. What I found with Adobe is that I needed to make sure that my permissions where correct for the user account. Before I changed the permissions all the new apps where taking forever to launch and sometimes they crashed the whole system without warning. I was also getting an error during the launch of AE but by changing the permissions it corrected the errors.

Here’s the process to change the permissions:

Go>Go to Folder

then go to the hidden Library Folder

type: ~/Libray

then go to Preferences>Adobe folder

Right click on Adobe Folder

choose Get Info

and then add the user name under ‘Sharing and permissions’

and then chosse the ‘apply to enclosed items’ option

similarly you can add permissions on the Application folder of the program and the plug-in folder.

Thanks for the tip. That worked perfectly The clip was a 60p and when I unchecked the Duplicate frames it encoded with a problem. Was that because it was a 60p file?

Yep! Getting the same artifacts in QT when I was checking the compression. Sounds familiar. Glad it doesn’t actually look that bad.

I’ve had the same experience with Digigami’s encoder dudring testing, but I liked the fact that I could export directly out of After Effects using the Digigami software thus saving a few steps. I was also looking into Cleaner mainly because I do a lot of compressions for different formats and this might be the best workflow, but didn’t know if it was worth the extra bucks.

When it comes to quality of compression its hard to compare a MPEG-2 file to a uncompressed master file and feels it’s the highest quality digital file I can put out there for my client.

I’m in the middle of creating the exact work flow for the DG Fast Channel and I’m trying to find the best 3rd Party Compression application for the files.

I’m working on a Mac and have looked into Sorenson, Cleaner, Digigami MegaPEG and Main Concepts for the best compression, but I would like to hear your final workaround for the best quality.

You are correct. I’m working in OSX to create and then export the movie in the animation codec then I move over to a OS 9 system where I can render the animation movie over to a AVR 77 movie. Only one client left on the old system and there a pain in the …..

So if I’m understanding you in the older AVID system you can change the field import settings for the importing of the clip and then it changes the clip field first during importing thus leaving my movie alone and changing it through AVID?

My work around now is using FCP to change the fields in the footage and then re-rendering all the animations to a Upper Field first setting. But I’d like to find an easy workaround.

Thanks Don for the suggestions. I cleaned out the prefs and cache files again, but that still hasn’t fixed the problem. It does seem like a cache problem, in the fact that restarting or refreashing the FCP application fixes the problem for awhile.

The other thing that bothers me is the fact that its only happening on my system and not a bug in FCP that I know of yet. Going to clean out the system and start over with installs on the OS and applications.

I agree. Not what you normally see from a system. All of these issues are FCP only and it just started happening recently. Other applications (AE, PSD, etc) are running without issues.

I haven’t added anything or changed hardware recently except the new drivers from AJA and sound soap. I uploaded the drivers to see if that would help the problems, but no luck. I just reloaded FCP to see if that made any changes but I didn’t do a clean install. I’ve trashed the preferences of FCP, but that didn’t help. I haven’t gone as far as doing a clean install or rebuilding the startup disk because it seems more of a FCP issue than system. I was thinking about new updates from apple (quicktime, OS) that might be issues but haven’t seen post dealing with not being able to type in the values box.

That’s why I was checking the FCP threads first before I dig deeper into the system files.

I’ve had the same problem when I upgraded to Quicktime 7.0.2 with exports and other sound issues. I downgraded the Quicktime to 7.0.1 which fixed the audio bug.

I found it! Don’t upgrade your QuickTime eo 7.0.2. (Duh!) There is a huge conflict using 7.0.2 in AE. Sound files in exporting and other functions fail with an erro message (-2166). I’ve downgraded to 7.0.1 and everthing is back to normal.
