HELP!! with Moving the project from Lower Field First to Upper Field First

Have not used an Avid that old in some time, but Avids currently have an Upper/Lower setting in the import setting…which means you select Lower field first and the Avid converts it to Upper on the way in.

Leave everything lower field first and the Avid should fix it on import. Try it, anyway, with a short clip.

Wait…how are you accomplishing this? There is no Avid ABVB codec that works in OS X. Are you using some intermediate codec first? Please detail the steps you are using.

You are correct. I’m working in OSX to create and then export the movie in the animation codec then I move over to a OS 9 system where I can render the animation movie over to a AVR 77 movie. Only one client left on the old system and there a pain in the …..

So if I’m understanding you in the older AVID system you can change the field import settings for the importing of the clip and then it changes the clip field first during importing thus leaving my movie alone and changing it through AVID?

My work around now is using FCP to change the fields in the footage and then re-rendering all the animations to a Upper Field first setting. But I’d like to find an easy workaround.

Yeah. Unfortunately, I am working off of memory, so I can’t give you a definitive answer.

The current Avids, as well as Meridien Avids can change the field dominance during the import, so you don’t need to invert it in FCP. I believe you could also do this on ABVB Avids, but I am not 100% certain…its been a long time since I worked on one of these .

Best to make a test file and have your client check.
