Did you have any success fixing this problem? It just started on my system.

I’ve been on Premiere for all of 2 weeks, and it’s these simple workflows that has me going back to AVID and wondering (reluctantly) about FCPX.
Adobe has some really suprisingly basic problems.
Compare the workflow of plurazing footage in FCP7 vs. Premiere. It’s astounding.
Compare the workflow of Sending to Speedgrade from Premiere to the workflow of going from FCP7 to Color. And getting back from Speedgrade to Premiere? I haven’t even figured it out. I don’t think you can. So you better have your picture lock before coloring. Hope you’re clients don’t give any notes on commercial projects.
Multiclipping in Premiere is a nightmare. Can’t create clips in the project pane, you can only drag sequences into the source monitor. Then the project file size creeps up. Don’t think I could ever cut a feature film with this software.
This is simple stuff that early versions of AVID can handle. Versions older than FCP7 can handle.Alex Petrovitch

March 27, 2013 at 8:48 pm in reply to: How to get FASTEST compression help – PLEASE READHey Craig,
Trying to get a FCP7 file onto a bluray w/ a 5.1 audio mix.
First, do you know how to get 5.1 out of FCP7? Sequence settings for the audio? Should all be at -3db? Should L and R be at 0db, others at -3db? Export all as an AIFF? Order of audio tracks?Next, I have a H264 video export. (sent to compressor and exported) How do I create the Blu Ray? Tried dragging into compressor to no success.
Thoughts?

March 27, 2013 at 5:37 pm in reply to: I have a feature film exported at PRO RES – How can I convert it to H264?Jeff,
Thank you for the in depth response. I’m almost there. The PRO RES export that I have is the “current settings”, so there is no compression. It’s full res, 422 HQ. So I will compress from that copy using MPEG Streamclip, to avoid what you described using FCP7’s ambiguous “good” / “great” settings with regard to data rate.
Now. In MPEG Streamclip, what data rate do you suggest? I did a demo this morning of a small 2 minute file, set it to 5000kbps, and the data info showed 6.30 Mbit/s. That is well below the 50mb/sec which you illuminated that Canon EOS cameras record at. 50mbs, would be 50000 kbps, right? That seems like I’d have an uber big file. What data rate do you suggest? The 5000kbps looked high quality, but do you think that is too low.
Second, last question, and this is simple. In MPEG streamclip, when you opt to “limit data rate”, there is a drop down menu. There are 4 choices. KB/sec, MB/sec, kbps, mbps. I was thinking that KB/sec meant kilobites/sec. But I also thought that was kbps??? When I threw in the 85 min file, the estimated size at 5000Kbps was 3.6 GB, but the estimated file size for 5000KB/sec was 25GB. Thoughts?
thank you again for all of your specific advice and knowledge.

March 27, 2013 at 1:59 am in reply to: I have a feature film exported at PRO RES – How can I convert it to H264?Thank you Craig. I was just wondering if there was a workflow now that I have it already out of FCP7 using MPEG. Reason being, the export of a H264 file for a 90 minute feature takes over 8 hours on my current system and I thought/think transcoding would be faster than starting again.
However, if I can’t, I will calculate the necessary data rate/size etc equation that you suggested. I’m guessing I don’t want to go below 5000kbps to maintain a nice sharp HD image.

Maybe I wasn’t clear. I was looking for a workflow to convert an exported PRO RES file to H264, w/o having to re export from FCP7, not definitions of things. Sorry if I wasn’t clear! If anyone in the forum has a suggestion, it’d be much appreciated!!!

March 21, 2013 at 10:51 pm in reply to: Getting Sync’d Audio from the sequence back into the BINS.Cody,
Figured it all out, even w/ multiclip. The workaround is…wow.
Nest the clip. Make it a sequence. Drag it do the source record. In/Out point a clip. Send to the sequence. On the sequence, right click the clip, multiclip, enable. Then, window-multicamera monitor.wow.

March 21, 2013 at 10:40 pm in reply to: Getting Sync’d Audio from the sequence back into the BINS.Cody,
Worked beautifully. In order to get the sequence into the Source monitor, I drag it up there. This normally in the future, would work just fine.
However, these are multiclips. When I drag the nested sequence (nesting 2 video and audio) into the Source monitor, set in/out points, and send that clip to the sequence, there is only one angle.
Is it impossible to edit in the source monitor with multiclips? AVID and FCP both have this. Seems very strange.

March 20, 2013 at 1:22 am in reply to: Consolidate PP CS6 timeline to ProRes for FCP7Got another question for you regarding CS6 regarding import and export.
Working with DSLR footage. When I open the project, CS6 gives me the option of which camera I’m using. DSLR 1080p. Great. However, I bring in the footage. Drop it on the timeline. Then I go to export, and if I click “match sequence settings”, the video codec says MPEG I-Frame. I would think it was H264 codec. In FCP7, it automatically conforms to the footage. If I dropped native Canon footage on the timeline, it would say H264. (Even though you can’t cut that in FCP7, only prores) I bring this up b/c I ran a test. Export using “match sequence settings”, and it exported really fast. as it should. Then I set it to export at H264, and it takes longer, it’s compressing something. I thought it was H264? And why does CS6 export a mp4, not a mov?Your import/export expertise would be greatly appreciated, as I’m about to start a big project, and I want to set everything up correctly.
