  • you can say that again.
i did the h.264, it took 24 hours. jesus.

what do you think about MPEG-2, use a “elementary stream”, 14/17 bit rate instead?
what’s your favorite set up in compressor to out put a BLURAY?

  • I just did the h.264 blu ray stream setting, with bit rate at 14average, 17 max, and it was “less pixelated” then when I did at 33/38…that seems weird.
do you think mpeg2 is better for blu ray than h.264?

    hey Rosh,

    Thank you for your help.

what is 1/48? is that the recommended shutter speed?
    That’s not a choice on the HVX200.
Do you recommend 1/24, 1/60? Some have told me when shooting for FILMCAM to use 180d?

Secondly, regarding REC FORMAT, I have been told 1080i24PA. My goal is to get this into film festivals, and get it into theaters, but if only DVD that is also fine. I was of the opinion, shoot at the highest resolution, since it’s harder to blow up if you have less info. Thoughts?

    Thanks.
Please respond ASAP if you can – I am shooting this sunday.

    Thanks again for your info.
    I finally understand it.

    Last question.
I’m using P2CMS to tranfer the footage.
When I look at the HD, it looks like it’s the “CONTENTS” folder.
I don’t see LASTCLIP anywhere. Is that okay?

When you do the “drag and drop” everyone says “GET THE CONTENTS AND LASTCLIP! DON’T FORGET LASTCLIP!!!”.
By using SHOTPUT PRO, or P2CMS, is the LASTCLIP already included some how?

    thanks,
    alex

April 6, 2010 at 7:12 pm in reply to: how to play mxf file in fcp or avid

    Question out there for everyone:

Is it better to get footage from P2 cards by importing/ingesting the CONTENTS and LASTCLIP via “P2CMS” or “SHOTPUT PRO” than going into FCP7 and just importing already made MOV files?

Is it better to have the audio and the MXF files separated as in the P2CMS transfer? what the hell is an MXF file? Is there data loss when doing the MOV transfer?

Also – when dragging the MXF file onto a timeline, FCP7 gives you “suggested” settings for the timeline. I shoot in 24fps, but it suggests DVCPRO HD 1080i60. Why the “60”.

Also – my footage seems to be having lines on the subject when they move quickly – is that because I shot in 1080i, instead of using 720p. (I am using the HVX200)

    thanks!

    Question-

So when you drag the info onto the timeline it sets the QT settings to DVCPRO HD 720p60.
    why “60”? aren’t you using 24 fps?

    Secondly,
why can’t I drag and drop “CONTENTS” and “LASTCLIP” instead of using “shotput pro” or “P2CMS”.

    Thirdly,
the footage I have shot on the HVX200 seems to have lines going across the screen everytime that a subject moves – is that because I shot in 1080i? Should I be using 720p?

    Fourthly,
What’s the difference of importing/ingesting my footage via “CONTENTS” and “LASTCLIP” versus importing/ingesting my data when I’m already logged into FCP7, and I just get the data already re-wrapped into MOV files?
If I import/ingest the “CONTENTS” and “LASTCLIP”, the files are in MXF format. What the heck is that?!

    Thank you for your information!

    Great –
    let me ask you this.
    I am shooting so that it’s 1080, 24fps.
The codec when I bring in the file into FCP 7 is 1280×1080
    Editing timebase 23.98
QT: DVCPRO HD 1080p30 (don’t know why it defaults to 30- should I change it to 24?)

When you ingest your data using SHOtPUT which I assume to be the same
as P2CMS, you are ingesting the CONTENTS and LASTTEXT right?
How do you get the footage to be readable in FCP7?
The only way that I can get footage into FCP7 is to
log and transfer inside of FCP7, not the CONTENTS/LASTTEXT.

I’m told that CONTENTS/LASTTEXT is the RAW footage right?
Anything that is a file brought through FCP7 is processed-
Do you need them both? That’s TWO file transfers before
you clear the P2 card? Takes a long time no?

And should I only BACKUP the CONTENTS/LASTTEXT file?
    not the FCP7 processed?

    Hey-
I have FCP7 now, which w/ LOG AND TRANSFER allows me to import by opening up FCP7.
However, I overheard another person saying that you should not use the LOG AND TRANSFER function at first to import off P2 cards, b/c it imports using a H.264 codec. Instead, I should plug the camera in, and get the data off, use a converter like MPEG Streamclip, and convert all files to Apple Pro Res 422 Light.

How do I get the data off the camera w/o using FCP7? Why is H.264 so bad???
