Are you maxed out on internal bays? If not, use one of those for a fast drive (7200rpm or SSD). If yes, it may still make sense to swap one of the internal drives for a faster larger one.
What is your current internal storage configuration? (What drives, how are they used?)

Hi Phil,
Looks like you got good recommendations already on the Adobe forum, although I was surprised that nobody asked what codecs and cameras you plan to work with, and what applications (if any) besides AE. (Resolve?)
Also, are you looking purely for specs, or vendor recommendations, as well? Timeframe for purchase? Budget range? Hardware support requirements if any? That will affect recommendations as well.

It is, if all you want is faster storage that doesn’t slow you much down when others are accessing the files: an external box 8+ bays and a SAS RAID controller, share it with others. Local storage will be super fast and won’t slow down much when others access it via LAN.
Now when you add a 2nd editor who might want to edit off of that box directly over LAN, then you’d need to talk to Bob Zelin.

The product may be a direct competitor of one of the products of GB Labs (certainly not mine).
Companies become competitors usually when they compete largely for the same market share with similar products. Not the case here, at least not in a significant way.
May I ask why are you so intent on pitching Small Tree against GB Labs?

The 1st part does look true – TH basically published an ad (well, “manufacturer announcement”) masqueraded as original content.
The 2nd part – not necessarily so, as the comparison seems to be on price, not features. As such, it might be a perfectly legit apricots-to-apricots comparison despite the large disparity in memory bandwidth and the number of processing cores. Tim Kolb noted as much in his response.
That said, I too am curious about a comparison between two cards of similar performance regardless of price differential. Also: differences between OpenCL and CUDA for the purpose of GPU acceleration in upcoming CS: what’s accelerated and what’s not.
If OpenCL does get a nice boost in GPU acceleration in CS, that’d be great news for a lot of people, especially on a Mac, don’t you think?

Don’t see it being answered either except in a PR-style post at Tom’s Hardware which promises faster OpenCL GPU acceleration vs. NVidia Cuda – with cheaper AMD cards and better GPU utilization, at that.
They didn’t say what they tested exactly (of course), and there’s no word if all the same stuff is accelerated in OpenCL as in Cuda.
So I am as curious as you are.
One thing seems to be for sure though: OpenCL is getting a very nice boost in the new version.
