WoW if your shooting at 100% That Crazy shooting with the hvx200 at 75% should be the correct target. personaly iv got better resalts underexposing then over.. and iv never been able to save an overexposed shot in FCP.

I just read something about FCP 5.1.2 and quicktime recording DVCPRO HD im sure something about Gama Shifts or something? im kinda unaware but check this site out https://www.hdforindies.com/ had to be about a week or two ago.

I use the marker setting then try to keep it around 65% to 70%. has not failed me yet especially for outdoor shots.

But could you share some tips and your thoughts on zebras over marker?

October 26, 2006 at 1:27 am in reply to: Finally I have an HD job

    Lars,
I here my solution/ thoughts.. (i have about two months with my HVX200 so im no pro with it yet however) iv specifically got it for commercials iv been shooting in 24pn mode and my clients not to mention the Stations Love the look. I use PN because i have only one 8gig card so i get about 22 minutes of shooting time should be about right. if i had two cards i would Stick to shooting in 720p 24 or 30p. For an other project i pluged my cam to my quad via firewire and final cut pro and got 1080 amazing looking footage in a studio. however with your powerbook you can pull it off in the store. for hard drive space i used a 300 gig lacie firewire 800 drive worked ok however not so good just ok in editing once you start to add graphics ect. im sure i need a esata drive or something faster.
editing straight from the main hard drive works amazing however i understand its NOT RECOMENDED.

SO as for transfering HD footage back to your P2 so your client can see on there HD tv.. IS THIS POSSiBLE?
Also i would say It does not look pro to take your camera back to play the spot and two if you print to mini dv tape you will lose so much of your look especially on an hd tv.

heres how i impressed my clent with an hd look. after your edit, burn your footage to a HD DVD from DVD Studio Pro.
you will have it on a DVD that more than likely if you gave this to your client they still will never be able to see it however off a mac book we connected to there HD montior Via DVI to HDMI played the disk and there EYES where amazed this also worked off my mac mini thats connected to our 23 in Sony HD motitor. so try this with your powerbook should work im not sure?? .. make a second disk SD DVD from HVX to final cut on HD time line to Compresser mpeg2 then DVD Studio your disk should look WAY BETTER in 16.9 SD DVD than off an sd mini dv equivalant camera.

P.S If you down mind i me asking or anyone out there!.. now that i own the camera, iv asked the question before, could you really get away with trying to charge more for an hd to sd project than SD with mini dv equivalant cameras.. YES the HVX is amzing on what it produces but could you?? would you? do you? charge more to turn it on?

    Alex

  • Did you record in 720 30pn because this happend to me same set up and it was that one record mode that seemed to be the issue..
    my fix was https://www.imagineproducts.com/hdlog.htm HDlog..
    good luck

July 17, 2006 at 10:51 pm in reply to: Wedding Shoots

Every wedding iv seen shot in 24p from dvx cams have looked amazing good by time it get to DVD… Depending on the users skills of cinematography i get all excited to see the “flim look” for weddings. as for events not so much.. and as for low light problems dont forget to pack a light.. i found that my brides dont mind my tools for the quality i give, givin i show them a demo prior to there event. as long as they get what they seen on that demo they are happy in the end and dont really care how it gets done iv found..

Iv found something with 20w works great. and not to blinding. iv use as much as 50w and still no problems or complaints.

Im a sony pd 170 user and awaiting my HVX200 this next week. i cant wait to shoot weddings on 24p SD to tape.. and my Tv commercials in hd.

As from personal experience. i would recomend buying two of the same cameras as you will find trying to make your lo-end cam look as good as your dvx will be a nightmare in post.
Stick to dvx or buy 2 HDV cams in the future.

  • No rudeness taken just good words..
Reason for thought on higher rates would be for this in mind for 1..
Filming on HVX200 to p2 to HD has a demand for more harddrive space and for storing a clients project to i just eat the cost of extra raid drives?. Dual layer DVD and blue ray are more expensive so why should i keep my rate the same for a start to finish HD say Doc or for a work out video for exsample. if that was the case.
i have a dvcam and Beta sp deck not a true DVCpro HD deck so if they ask for a hd tape should i suck it up and buy one then still charge the same low rate??
I do agree it will be a very very long time befor someone wants a true start to finish Hd Production however these
are Just a few thoughts in response.

  • Thanaks for the reply Dean.

Iv Produced (filmed & edited) one complete 30 min infomercial for a local morgage business and many many 30 sec commercials for local. however everybody seems to be on a budget in my area if you know what i mean. it was hard for me to justify the cost x work.. but i was looking to be first in the area which i know i am with in 45 minutes of anybody that shoots HD.. Well HDV Dont im not counting. .. Im really looking forward on putting together a good reel of HD to help sell my self to more high end clients.
But have you found it hard to give your clents a hd look in sd format?

Iv done one Green screen project check the link. https://magoneproductions.com/video/commercials/gold_star/finalgoldstar_eng.mov (mind my web site as a designer is working to make it all nice..)
Oh yeah I Film all my work on a pd 170
