Of the top of my head.. assuming that you are looking at the the office from distance.. like the only light on in an office block…
Take the frame into Photoshop, marque round the office window, and create a new layer with it.. inverse the colour, then colour correct it using Hue, Saturation, etc.. duplicate the layer, put a blur on it, then change the thingy to screen and adjust the opacity…
save it, import into AE as a comp, change the comp settings so it is back to 4:3 pal or ntsc.. or what ever you are using. add a very subtle zoom or camera wobble, and add a bit of noise to an adjustment layer.. to stop it looking to much like a static frame..

Do you have after effects pro ?? I think.. and I could be wrong.. but I think the tracking onle comes with AE pro

much appreciated .. just so I understand correctly
we are adding the current value to the null, then taking the value at our current time and subtracting again to get the correct position.

Instead of pre comping.. have you tried cropping in the render settings..click on the output module and then in the video output section there is a crop.. try using that.. see if that speeds things up..
i have never tried it before.. but it would be worth a try.. post back and let me know your results

without seeing the shot it’s a bit difficult to say.. but camera shake works well.. also depending how high the copter is, some paper flying around is good. there is a tutorial on video co pilot that shows a power ball type thing…. however he creates some flying paper. check it out.
simulate the shadow by duplicating the helicopter, downing the levels so it is black, bluring it a little then scaling in -100% in y.. should get you started

the simplest way would be to track the wheels.
then create a solid layer and apply a stroke to it or use a custom shape,
then copy your track points to the end of the stroke, and it should follow the wheels nicely !!!Alex

OK.. After Effects tracking.. When it works.. it is fabulous.. when it doesn’t it really really doesn’t.
The main problem is that it really does need a good solid point to track to.. There needs to be a consistent point through out your shot. I would imagine that there aren’t too many of these on aerial shot of sand.
There are some adjustments you can make. I like to have the outer box fairly big, it takes longer to work out, but it stabilizes the track better I find, also in the track options try tracking fields, and playing with the adapt feature on every frame and the extrapolate if confidence is below 80%.
There are a few tutorials you could look at here at the cow as well.
With regards to tracking in the z plane. no after effects can’t really do it.. you can try the scale.. but I have never really ad much like.. I think you wold be probably better of with a motion tracker like pf track or boujou.. but these aren’t cheap..

The only way to do would be to affect the scale of your image.. as I undersand you correctly you want to track a camera pull back.
so you could use an expression on the scale of the image but it would obviously pixelate !!
apply the tracking scale data to a null..
then on your image use a lin expression to re size it.

I’m not sure I really understand..
If you are trying to work out a way to create new strings, from the girl to the lightbulbs.. couldn’t you just use drawing a path using customs shapes, and just using the stroke ??? and just key frame it ??
