I create SD DVD’s from DVCProHD footage all the time and send a reference movie to my desktop and drop it onto compressor. I bought the CRAM pack of compressor setting as they have some really nice settings for DVD that don’t require tweaking the audio levels. Sometimes the standard settings for audio in compressor generate audio that is way to quiet.

I don’t mean to turn this into a thread about the 1400 but I regularly rent this deck for ingest and output and I am now curious as to what in can convert. My understanding is that this deck will not convert from 1080i to 720p on the output side. Is it that this deck will convert 720p to 1080i but not the other way around. I often get footage from NASA in 1080i that I need in 720p and I always use compressor to make the conversion. It works fine but always adds a little time to the ingest process. I am thinking about replacing our Kona Lh with either a Kona 3 or whatever the new card they came out with earlier this year that will do these kinds of conversions.

    THanks

I once had this problem when we first started our HVX and we were conducting interviews. I tried to pull a card that was full during an interview and I didn’t depress the eject button fully. When I got back to our offices later and tried to ingest it would not work. There was a corrupt file somewhere in there. I ended up opening all the folders and found that the camera had tried to create a new clip on the full card. It had created some but not all of the necessary files for a complete clip. Once I determined what was going on I deleted the individual files from the folders and was able to capture with no lost data. I have only had that problem once and that was over 2 years ago. Open all the individual folders and make sure that each clip has all the corresponding files.

You can convert m2t files for free with mpeg streamclip. I use it all the time to convert HD clips from sony vegas to dvcpro hd clips for editing in fcp.

Try using the distort function in the viewer window to “square” up your image. I don’t remember all the basic formulas.

Still doesn’t solve the problem. If I crop the green screen and move them around I need to have the bg comped into the effect as well as on it’s own layer which gets me back to my original problem of the dissolve.

    Thanks Though

January 14, 2009 at 6:50 pm in reply to: Live Capture Blu Ray with Kona LHe

Thanks for the quick reply Walter,

I spoke to the fine folks at AJA and turns out the issue was with the output setting from the BD player. It was configured to 525i. I had the frame buffer and the ingest settings in FCP set to either 1080i for 720p and it could not make the conversion. Once my boss got the remote and manual from his house I was able to make the changes to the output from the analog side and now the Kona reads 720p on the analog input side. Once the editors clear out of the bay I will give it a shot as you have suggested. I kind of figured this should be fairly easy. Thanks for your expertise. By the way Good Eats is one of my favorite programs. I had to catch the Making Of special on a replay just so I could see you on TV.

    Thanks

Try creating a new folder with a reel number, something like ABC001. Put both contents and lastclip.txt into this folder. When you open log and transfer select this ABC001. The clips should load from there. The software needs to see both those elements in the same place.

December 18, 2008 at 9:09 pm in reply to: 59.94 Imports as 23.98 from AE?

    Gary,

Turns out it was an issue with AE. When my editor finished a piece in AE he would send it out using the export option. After speaking with an expert on the subject, who has been previously not available, I learned the best way to export is by using the Make Movie function. Import into FCP all done all good. Clips read as they should 59.94. As I suspected all along but could no answer for is it was a setting in AE.

    Thanks for all the guidance,

    Al

That much I was able to see when I tested however, 59.94 was not an option. CT said the footage was already 59.94 and only gave me the options I listed earlier. Remember I said that my choices were 30,29.97,25,24 & 23.98. Also please remember that all comps coming out of AE read as 23.98. Including elements which contain no DVCProHD footage at all. Pure FX stuff. I appreciate your patience with me on all this.
