    Gary,

Apparently something is getting lost in translation.

#1 We always shoot 720p60. How do you get redundant frames with this setting? I was under the impression you got redundant frames when you shot 720p30. Hence the reason 720p30n gives you double the storage.

#2 I created my project using the settings for 720p60 in FCS on multiple machines across two versions of FCP(6.0.4 & 5.1.4) same results. I have added various comps to multiple projects all of them 720p60 and I get the same results.

#3 I will try using CT a use recommended but can I assume it will conform much the same way Compressor does when I use the DVCProHD 720p60 codec?

I have included a screen grab.

Thanks for all your help on this. Adobe has yet to call me back to discuss wether this is some sort of settings issue on the AE end and I don’t think Apple will much care if comps from another FX program don’t work quite right their editing platform.

    Thanks

    Al

Okay first things first. We shoot all our footage on an HVX200 always set to DVCProHD 720p60. W have been shooting an editing in this frame rate since last summer as we found the strobing in 30 to be to much when we did quick pans. That and we have a very good DP. I ingest all the footage personally and often do some very basic rough cuts for my boss. I know that the settings for the clips and timelines are correct. My question is why does QT read the clip properly and when I import the clip FCS interprets the clip as something else. It appears to my eyes that FCS is doing pulldown. I just sent a 59.94 comp into FCS that it read as 23.98 and exported it back out with current settings. It now reads in QT as 23.98. I need to find the link to the posting on how to upload the video so I can show everyone what I’m talking about. As I stated earlier I can run these comps thru compressor set to DCProHD 720p60 and they ingest fine. I am trying to avoid this work around as it is a pain in the butt. Is there some sort of tag from AE in the QT file itself that FCS is reading and interpreting as 23.98?

    Alright,

Sorry for the delay but my 2 year old had to stay home yesterday with an ear infection. I just ran a test where I imported a clip into after effects that was shot at 59.94. I set up the comp with a frame rate of 59.94. I then exported the clip with nothing done to it. I used the DVCPro HD 720p60 setting. I opened the clip in QT and it played back at 59.94. The clip length was 00:12:24. When I imported the clip into FCS the clip was now 00:12:09 and reading and playing back at 23.98. The clip length was very close to the original but the shot played back at half speed. So I end up missing half the clip. This test was done using CS 4 and FCS 6.0.4.

Video was shot and edited in FCS as 720p60 DVCProHD. Settings in AE where the same. When the clip is exported I select the same settings for the encode. When the clip plays back in QT it shows 59.94 as playback rate. Only in FCS is playback not correct. Here is an example.

Let’s say I export a comp out that is 10 seconds long. so roughly 600 frames. When I import the clip into FCS the clip is adjusted for a frame rate of 23.98 the length then becomes incorrect. Nonetheless FCS is still interpreting the clip incorrectly. I need help understanding why a clip QT reads as 59.94 or 29.97 which it is becomes 23.98 when imported into FCS.

Movie info shows the clips to be 59.94. Info in FCS shows 23.98.

I’m using the DVCProHD 720p60 codec for export. I have tried using the 29.97 and 59.94 frame rate setting in the Composition setting both to no avail.

    Hard Luck Harry,

Have you tried eliminating your media files. I have heard that having a single corrupt file can wreak havoc on your system. I am restoring my system back to when it was operating properly. If I still have problems after that I will begin removing media from my most recent project and reimporting until the problem repeats and fix that media.

October 31, 2008 at 3:05 pm in reply to: Duel Adaptor problemo

I have a workflow that I have been using for the last 18 months on dozens of shoot with no issues. I have an MBP running 10.4.11, FCP 5.1.4. I use P2CMS and their P2Card Formatter Software.

When a card fills up I insert said card into my dual adapter and drag and drop the clips into a “reel” folder on an external fw400 drive. When the transfer is complete I eject the card and open the folder inside P2 CMS to verify that the clips look and sound okay. I then reinsert the P2 card and and reformat using the Panny software, eject the card one more time hand it back to my DP to go back into the card rotation. I then make a copy of my “reel” onto a second fw400 drive that is daisy chained to the first drive. When I get back to our studios I copy all the reels onto some Seagate 750 external FW400 drives log and capture onto my CalDigit HDPro tower and file the portable drives from my shoot just like tape.

This simple but effective workflow has worked flawlessly on shoots all over the country with out any issues. Many of these shoots the camera runs constantly (interviews) and I really have my hands full with offloading. I haven’t had any issues disconnecting the card reader. I just make sure I eject the card before I unplug the adapter.

    Hope this helps.

I am vexed. I need to try and replicate what you are seeing on my MBP. I am running FCP 5.0.4 on it. Let me look into it a little bit. You mentioned you had this data in 2 place, one should always backup ones p2 cards, have you tried using your backups yet? What does you folder structure look like for clips Reel01>
    lastclip.txt
    contents>Audio
    Clip
    Icon
    Proxy
    Video
    Voice
Does your “reel” contain all of the preceding folders?
