I’m a little confused. When you go to log and transfer don’t select the contents folder. Go up one level from there. Did you copy over the lstclip.txt file when you made your p2 backups? I was confused by your quote about the import into sperate bins thing. I think you are using the import function in FCP. Don’t do that. Go File>Log & Transfer. This changed from FCP 5 when you went to file>import>p2. Then click the folder with the plus sign in the top left corner of the l & t window and select the top level folder for the reel you want to log and transfer. You don’t import the clips in the traditional sense. Log and transfer will rewrap your mxf files as mov quicktime movies.

Those would be critical. Check around here and on the Apple forums as I know that I have read about software that can help “rebuild” some areas of the p2 files. Not entirely sure but it is worth a look. Try looking under xml repairs, xml missing. You may find that one of the programs like P2CMS from Panasonic will get it done.

September 4, 2008 at 2:17 pm in reply to: OT: MobileMe or alt’s to send approvals to client? We use Xprove to allow our clients to preview their shows. We upload a QT version and a WMV version. This allows our clients to view whatever will work on their machines. You can set up different jobs and companoes that will allow you to have clients only be able to acces what you want them to. I think there is and option to allow the client download the show for themselves. They also have the opportunity to leave comments on each show. I think the priceing was pretty reasonable. I checked the pricing and it runs 180 bucks a year for a lite account. That allows you to have 5 projects and 12.5 gb a month bandwidth. The site also has a download with some predone settings for compressor so you get the best results. Really cool product. We do a lot of work for NASA and often have to get approval from multiple persons around the country.

I may be misunderstanding what you are saying, however when you select log and transfer in FCP select the “reel” folder that contains all the files you transfered form the p2 card. Do not select indiviual folders. FCP should recognize the clips all whole pieces when imported this way. Ex. you shoot card 1. You create a folder called Reel01. You copy all the info ,contents folder, lstclip.txt, over to this folder from the p2 card. You connect your hard drive containing all your reels to your FCP rig and click the little folder with the plus on it in the log and transfer window. Select Reel01, not subfolders within the contents folder, and you should be good to go.

I ordered a custom cable from mike at dale pro audio in new york. It is 25′ long and has RCA females on one end and BNC connections on the other end. It set us back about $75.00 and took a couple of weeks for their vendor to get the cable built. We use it to hook up our HVX 200 to our Panasonic 1700 HD field monitor. I tried to have one built using the d-type connector on one end and BNC on the other end so I only had one cable but, that was more than they could deliver.

We are currently using xprove to allow our customers to view their productions in a secure environment. It is an excellent interface. Don’t know if this helps you out at all but it’s definitely worth checking out. I think Frank Capria is involved in running it.

I don’t know if this will help. I while back had to encode a DVCPro HD project that ran about 5 minutes. I couldn’t get a file size of 5 mb’s with any sort of decent quality but what did help was knocking down the audio quality to 48kbps 44.1khz or 16 bit 44.1khz or 8 bit also helps. Also I found that I could knock the frame rate down a little bit when using qt conversion from within fcp. Say from 30 frames to 15 frames. The picture quality was still very nice if ever so slightly jerky. If you find a way to get down to a file size of 5mb’s with decent quality please let me know.

I currently use a P2 store to copy over P2 content to my 15″ macbookpro. Shane Ross has a mention in his blog and there is review somewhere in this forum about a device that uses the PCI Express slot and converts to PCMCIA Card reader. Here is the link https://lfhd.blogspot.com/2007/03/p2-card-adapter-now-available-for_07.html#links. Looks like from the info on the vendors site they run about $120.00. If it works definitley worth the price.

I was just doing a location shoot this past weekend and was using a p2 store to copy the data across to an external dard drive and then copying the card to my p2 store for backup. This tends to tie up the p2 store for about 20 minutes per card. If this device works as advertised I assume I could use it in place of the p2 store for copying the files over to a backup drive. I have a 2.33 15″ macbook pro right now and get transfer speeds of about 1 gig a minute reseulting in 7 to 8 minute transfer times per card with a p2 store running on USB 2.0. Can I expect faster times with the adapter. As to Scott’s question it sounds like you only have to reboot if you unplug the device. Is it possible to just eject the card when the you finish and put the next card in? If so this sounds like and excellent device to ad to my travel kit.
