Thanks guys. I’m going to be lazy this round and use Andy’s plugin! Next time I’ll try one of the other methods.
Best,
Alex.

August 12, 2009 at 9:20 pm in reply to: Linking mono channels into stereo pair changes pan setting. Thanks David. I’ve noticed FCP also pans AIFF music clips when I lay them in the timeline – these are proper stereo clips. It shows -1 in pan setting. Why? I’m not sure I’m understanding what’s going on with panning here. If I was creating a mix where I wanted certain sounds panned left or right, then yes I’d pan them all the way over. But why does it do this for music tracks – surely they’re balanced already & the pan should be 0?! Am I missing something or is a fcp bug?

August 12, 2009 at 7:51 pm in reply to: Linking mono channels into stereo pair changes pan setting.OK David, just to clarify – I’m copying an audio clip from A1 to A2 – sorry in my post I said a ‘channel’. Radio mics only record one mono channel – so the sound always needs doubling up. I link the 2 clips as a stereo pair – Option + L – this makes further audio edits easier as any edits affect the pair rather than dealing with 2 independent clips. When you link as a stereo pair the pan setting changes from 0 to -1. That’s the bit that’s throwing me!

I experimented with HDV 1080 50i & standard DV PAL footage. Thanks for the info everyone. Alex Bluffield

November 29, 2008 at 9:48 am in reply to: Black line on HDV/XDCAM clips dropped into DV PAL Anamorphic sequenceHi Rafael,
Had to go DV because we were mixing in DVCAM footage & thought it was better to downscale the HDV/XDCAM than upscale the DVCAM. Shift-fields filter – I noticed that was on some of the clips – I’m guessing it converts the field dominance from upper to lower on the HDV/XDCAM clips? Still stumped by the black line though…I don’t know what fcp does to convert hd footage onto sd timelines – it’s magic to me! If anyone knows please chip in. Thanks, Alex.

September 11, 2008 at 11:28 am in reply to: Linking/unlinking video & audio tracks in Avid Xpress ProThanks Michael, that’s exactly the info I wanted to know. I know a lot of fcp editors that have linking turned off, but personally I have it turned on & hold down Option to do split edits etc. Now I know where I’m at it with Avid – thanks!

Hi Shane – sorry one more question – if we did go with an Imac can we try capturing to the internal SATA drive if we create a partition? Then keep copying across the media to external disk as the storage fills up?

Thanks Shane. We have a Lacie D2 external drive – that has both e-SATA & FW connections. Should we go FW or e-SATA (now thinking of capturing using MacBook Pro)? Thanks for your time. ALex

Also – would adding an e-SATA card & drive be another alternative? (Again this wouldn’t be poss with the Imac).

Thanks for the reply Shane. We want to capture progressive DVCPRO-HD (PAL) – this is just not going to be possible on an Intel Imac is it – as they have no expansion options for adding an extra fw bus. Can we do it on a Mac Pro with an extra fw bus? The deck only has fw400 – can we capture using dvcpro hd 1080 25p codec without video overrun/sync issues? Thanks in advance. Alex.
