I belive that we can somehow record back onto tape using the same 2:3:3:2 cadence that was originally on the DV tape, but while recording the 23.98 footage directly onto miniDV tape thru firewire, upon playback the image goes in and out, stutters, and experiences dropouts. We’re running a Macbook Pro 2.16ghz Core Duo, so I don’t believe this is a system speed issue. Our solution has been to place the 23.98 footage onto a 29.97 sequence and are manually recording using a DV deck which has worked OK.

I should clarify that we need the subtitles for our working cut, and since it’s a doc the subtitles do change constantly. The final subtitles for the film might be done with DVDSP. Thanks.

I’m doing a sit-down interview and can use a TV, but doesn’t TV add noise that might be picked up by the sensitive shotgun mics? I know that if leave my TV on I can hear the “flickering” or “buzzing” from the next room.

    Thanks.

Yes, and they’re at max. I believe from what I’ve been reading that the imic is hit or miss. Mostly miss cause it doesn’t have a preamp built-in. So wondering what audio setups you guys have with your FCP system.

    Thanks.

April 26, 2006 at 6:49 pm in reply to: Stereo vs. Ch 1 + Ch 2

I’m giving my transcribers only the quicktime files to listen to. So is it safe to assume that in their headphones the left side will be Ch. 1 and the right side Ch. 2 of my camera footage? My concern was that I would have to redigitize my footage to get separate channels of sound, but according to what you guys have said the difference between “stereo” and “Ch 1 + Ch 2” is just a panning function within FCP. Correct?

    Thanks,

    Hi Joe,

Your response is awesome news! I immediately bought Quicktime Pro, but I’m a bit confused. I went to “movie properties”. You then said to “Select the video track from the left drop down and time code from the right drop down. You will see off-tape time displayed”. I select the video track but I’m not sure what the “left drop down” is. And what is the “right drop down”? I’ve tried these steps with both a mac and pc but it doesn’t seem intuitive. Please take me step by step. I really appreciate this!

The orange shows up while editing, but when outputting to tape, supposedly it doesn’t show up.
