I’m not sure if OpenGL applies to plain old footage, but I ran into some problems before where I was lettign OpenGL render my motion graphic comp and it took a while for me to spot the error.

  • I’d really love to see you guys do a tutorial on particles, what they do, and making custom realistic displacement maps for visual effects compositing. But that’s just my opinion.

You may try out some custom rotoscoping (basically just altering your footage frame by frame). Look it up on google, and I’m sure you’ll get tons of results.

fortunately i do have 3 windows machines, but after effects still can’t handle .avi files on these machines. What’s the deal? Do I need to download some codec or something?

i can import it if I override AE’s (OSX) “Acceptable Files” option, but once importd, it just plays out as chopps audio with a blank white picture.

for some reason the video doesn’t show up in AE when I simply import it, so that’s an answer to Arahon: If i rendered it, it’d just be kinda blank. By the way, Arahon, I love your podcasts. They’re great and interesting.

this could be the sign of a bitrate spike that your dvd player is not able to handle, but I’m not sure. If the part that skips has a transition or heavy set of effects applied, this is what might happen. SO, what are your compression settings? Are you using compressor? Try lowering the bitrate if you’re going to MPEG-2 from compressor. I hope this helps a tiny bit.

By the way: I just wanted to commend you: Creativecow needs more users like you, who help people when no one else seems to be able to answer the question.
