It seems that most of the problems in Vegas Pro 11 occur when using GPU.
Try to disable it and see whether it helps you or not.

Vegas maintains the list of recently used projects at the bottom of the File menu (up to 9 entries you can specify in Preferences), so you can quickly find your saves there

I’ve never used Trimmer in my work (no need for me), since Vegas allows me to do anything I want right on the timeline. Look in the help for key combinations that you can use.

What is the format of your video?
For lossless and quick trimming you can use VirtualDub (free) or SolveigMM Video Splitter

Vegas can’t do it out of the box, but you can use scripts, eg Markers tool from Vegasaur

This means that render template uses the video quality setting, which is specified in the Project Properties.
You can explicitly set it to Best (or Good) to override it. The difference between Good and Best is described in the help:

“Unless you have specific performance problems, choose Good. Choosing Best can dramatically increase rendering times. Good uses bilinear scaling without integration, while Best uses bicubic scaling with integration. If you’re using high-resolution stills (or video) that will be scaled down to the final output size, choosing Best can prevent artifacts.”
