Costos, hope I’m understanding your question clearly. I routinely edit MC seqs. for a web series. My workflow is as follows:
- Assemble the MC seq.. color correct them if needed quickly, fine tuning later, put the new MC seq. on the timeline, cut as needed
- After MC Seq. is cut, add off camera recorded sound, title, credits, overlays, whatever.
- Render/Export
There is a very good tutorial that Larry Jordan put together, which includes either a paid video ( I bought it and can attest that it’s excellent), and step by step written guidelines. It helped me quickly understand the newer features of CC MC.

Did you do the work to actually tell Pr to break the channels into dual mono before adding it to your timeline? In CC you no longer will have to do that, you can do it from the timeline. But in 6, you need to do it before adding it to the timeline.

I know, it’s frustrating. If you double click on the AVCHD folder you should see the entire clips shown, minus the structure. I think Apple is trying to hide the folder structure to keep novices from screwing things up.

I use a similar setup to Bill’s. I have used the iPad and Teleprompt+ also. Works great. I too agree I’d love to find a version that works with rails rather than the mount. Hey! We should ask them to build it!

Great ideas all. I know you say you don’t have the budget for this, but here’s an idea worth having on the thread for future use.
I did some shooting in the last two years with a pilot who is a super still photographer and has a great setup for shooting out his plane (not the best for video). But he uses a Kenyon stabilizer. I found it works pretty well. Not perfect, but good for the price. It shows the kit for it at $2k, but maybe there is a pro shop in some nearby major city that rents them and can overnight the kit to you.
I used the KS-4 with both a 5DMkiii and a Canon XF305. I think that I also learned to shoot at as high a frame rate as possible. Many of my early attempts were not sharp at 24 or even 30FPS. Better of course with the 5D at 30FPS than the 305.

Patrick, not sure how new you are to Pr, but there is the issue of “conforming” the sound, the colored bar on the bottom right as you import. You have to let it conform the footage, essentially process the audio. iF you start too soon in playing the clip, you’ll have drop outs.
But if that’s not the issue, you could have a corrupted Adobe index. I don’t think that’s the problem, but you never know. I had it happen to me about two months ago, and rebuilding the index solved the problem. Not sure if I am remembering the exact terminology, but that’s close.

I too do a lot of similar kinds of fx as you do. If you really can’t upgrade the Retina model to 16 GBs, I would buy the 16GB model. If you get into a longer project, and have to use the MBP, it would be a drag to find out that you couldn’t upgrade in the midst of a project. I did the upgrade to 16MB from 8 myself, I had to open the case, but it wasn’t that hard. OWC video based instructions were pretty clear. I wonder if because they are making such a slim case now, that they simply solder the RAM in and don’t have a typical expansion slot, or even a slot that allows the existing RAM to be popped out?

It depends on your footage you are editing. My experience lead me to buy the higher end 2012 MBP with dual video card installed (nvidea GEForce) and 16GBs RAM. I shoot a lot of MXF and AVCHD HD footage. I just completed a 35 minute video project that didn’t have a lot of FX, but I found that on the machine that had 8GBs, I had a lot of small problems with Pr CS6. Crashes happened when rendering and I noticed that I was using all 8GBs to render. When I upgraded to 16GBs, my rendering showed using just about 15MBs, and all my crashing stopped.
I ended up with the non Retina display, because they stopped producing MBPs with the FW plug when they went to the Retina display. I have too many drives that force me to occassionally use FW800 to be limited that way. I assume I will end up going USB 3.0 or TB eventually. All my newer drives are USB 3.0 as well as FW800 and eSata.
So I would say that if you are doing simple field work, logging, and doing short pieces, you likely will be ok, but you could upgrade later. OWC has very good upgrades that I’ve used over the years.

Thanks Lance. I don’t have an immediate need, I’m wrapping up a couple of projects right now. My own small experiences seem to also say that Windows 7 64 seems more stable and fast than the Mac version, but it’s been very hard to fully compare, as my Mac Pro is a 4 years old and the i7 WIndows machine is only two years old, so I would expect the i7 to be faster. I’ve not yet managed to get my 2012 Macbook Pro with 16 GBs fully configured to compare, but my initial reactions seem to be that things seem pretty comparable. My Win 7 machine is a 2.93GHz Intel i7 870 with 16 GBs, and the MBP is a 2.6 Intel i7. They should be comparable. My concern is that Pr might be buggier on the Mac.
Did you notice the problem with subclips not coming across properly into Pr? Or do you use them at all? My project had quite a lot of subclips, and while they showed up in Pr on the timeline, I could not open them in the Source window, so I couldn’t apply CC or any affects on them. They did show up in the Program window. I didn’t know what to make of that, so I finished the project in Vegas, to avoid running late. Now that it’s done, I’d like to take the time to really figure out what the heck was going on. I have quite a few legacy projects in Vegas, and eventually want to migrate some of them.
What I can say is that the images on the screen seem much more vibrant (working within Pr on the Mac), and that it’s much easier to use the color correction wheels on Pr than on Vegas, where they seem to not be resizeable. Though I’m trying to work more with the S curves.

The ‘Show Progress In Video Preview Window” is located in a different part of the INTERNAL menu on Version 12. It’s about half way down the elevator bar, under the section that starts with settings called:
