Turning off preview window
Posted by Ralph Hajik on November 3, 2013 at 1:02 amHi Vegas Pros,
Turning off the preview window under preferences when rendering in the old Vegas Pro software was easy to find.
Where do I turn off the preview window when rendering in Sony Vegas12 and what do I look for? Thanks,
Ralph Hajik

[Ralph Hajik] “Turning off the preview window under preferences when rendering in the old Vegas Pro software was easy to find.”
_______________________________________________________________Where was it? I have to say I’ve never sought it out before now, so thanks for asking!
NB: INTERNAL PREFERENCES ALERT . . ALERT…ALERT…
OK, it does exist, as a COMMAND, but I can’t find it revealed within the the GUI. However, if you wish to access the INTERNAL Preferences it is there and can be re-typed from TRUE to FALSE and confirm by clicking APPLY and it will do exactly what you want – I just tested it.
Again, where was this located in the “older” versions of VP? I have them going back to VP8 installed.
Cheers

November 3, 2013 at 4:08 pmI initially didn’t reply because I thought the OP was asking something not this basic. You go to the “View” menu and turn off the preview window. But I can’t imagine why you would want to.

November 3, 2013 at 4:54 pmHi Guys,
Thanks for your answers. The reason for the question is I have always used Sony Vegas Pro 8 in the past and turned off the preview window in the preferences during render so it’s easier on the cpu. Since I have upgraded to Sony Vegas Pro 12, it is now a whole new learning experience for me, it’s like learning all over again. Now I’m shooting some video and pictures with the Canon 5D mark lll. Now trying to learn what format to render in and finding my way through to the final DVD process is a challenge.
I’m always up to a challenge no matter what or how long it takes. Thanks again,
Ralph Hajik

November 3, 2013 at 5:20 pmOn a planet far, far away called DOS, we would sometimes turn off the display to speed up a process. I don’t think that with a multi-core processor you would see much difference, if any, in rendering time.
Version 8 and Version 12 are not that much different. But, then, I update like a lemming. If you are making a DVD, then use the DVDA template in the “Render As” window that is closest to your project settings.

November 3, 2013 at 5:27 pmI don’t know what’s happening on the forums today, so this may be a double post.
CPU activity dropping to zero only means that the CPU is waiting for a process to finish.
You can use the Windows Resource Monitor to try to determine what process has caused the problem.
Go to Start, Run, and enter “resmon”.
In the Overview tab, look for Vegas in the image column.
Right-click on the program image name and select “Analyze Wait Chain”
If a hung process is the problem, you can try to simply end the process. More often than not (in my experience) this usually fixes the immediate problem and the program can continue running. Back up your work and Google the offending process to see if there may be a fix. (It’s a long shot, though.)Steve Mann

November 3, 2013 at 7:00 pmSteve? I responded without reference to the View>Preview option, ‘cos the OP wanted to stop the Previewing only WHILE rendering, not remove the Preview window – whatever the OP’s reason was. So I went to the trouble searching down the Control, and yes it exists in VP12 but NOT as a GUI option.

November 3, 2013 at 7:57 pmWell, according to our chum here, at some point it WAS also available in the GUI too?
