I was wondering if someone can help me with a flow process on Multi Cam Editing.

Firstly, let me say I know how to multi cam edit with Premier Pro CC. What I am struggling to work out is a decent process with the following scenario. I am editing tutorial DVDs. Lets say the DVD has 8 chapters. Only 4 of the chapters have Multi Cam Edits. After Editing each Multi Cam sequence what do we do?

The question is, do we add all the sequences in order on the timeline to create the project and then edit the multi cam sequences on the timeline, or do we edit all the multi cam sequences first, then build the timeline. If so, what do we add on the timeline from the Multi Cam edits.

When you are finalising the timeline with chapter markers and fades etc you dont realy want to see the cuts in the multi cam sequences.

I hope someone can understand what I am talking about.
Most tutorials show how to multi cam edit, but don’t show you what to really do when you have more than one multi cam edit and want to add these on the same timeline with footage that is not multi cam to create your project.

Costos, hope I’m understanding your question clearly. I routinely edit MC seqs. for a web series. My workflow is as follows:

  • Assemble the MC seq.. color correct them if needed quickly, fine tuning later, put the new MC seq. on the timeline, cut as needed
  • After MC Seq. is cut, add off camera recorded sound, title, credits, overlays, whatever.
  • Render/Export
  • There is a very good tutorial that Larry Jordan put together, which includes either a paid video ( I bought it and can attest that it’s excellent), and step by step written guidelines. It helped me quickly understand the newer features of CC MC.

What you are likely looking for is free on his site, at this location

While Larry primarily focuses on FCPX, he does some excellent tutorials on Pr which are every bit as good if not better, than Lynda.Com’s ones.

Ignore this if you already know all about nesting sequences
I may have misunderstood, but can’t you just drag the completed multicam sequences from the project panel into a new sequence? They’ll look like a single clips that you can put together with other sequences, add chapter markings, etc.
