Try editing 1080p on a laptop from 2000.
And try editing and finishing in Fcp7 or any 32-bit NLE on a laptop.
It worked, but it was a hassle.
The new NLEs are just flying. even on portable machines.

No need for seperate events. I would simply create different keyword collections for the 4 products. You can also create and stack folders in the event.

You can have shots in different keyword collections, so the factory-overview can be in every product’s collections or you make a keyword “general overviews”. Pretty much depends on the footage and your personal preference. But I would keep it in one event and if you shoot a fifth product with the same distributionidea I would drop that into the event as well.

I know the guys who do this for channel 4. They have 50 Avids in their house and the paralympic programmes were shoot over the span of the last 4,5 years. Nice concept, nice budget, nice work.

A quick way is to create a folder in the Project Library (e.g. ClientX) and drag them in there. I sometimes have 20 version of a project, So I make a folder for all timelines that are “done for ClientX” or “prep only”. This way they don´t appear in the Project Browser all the time, only when I step into the folder.

If you want to have them somewhere else totally (and this works with events too) go to the Finder. Find the Final Cut Projects directory and drag the Projects somewhere else. Once they are out of that directory FCPX doesn´t see them.
I have in every project a FCPEventparked and a FCPProjectparked directory. Once I don´t need them or want to hide them I drag the event and projects in there. Takes a second (when they are dragged within the same drive!!!).

There is also an app EventManagerX, but I don´t use it, because it only makes sense on one machine and I edit on 2 or have to share external drives a lot.

As I’ve said ad nauseum, viewing large amounts of material quickly and easily has never been a problem for me in any NLE I ever worked with – EMC, *edit, PPro or Legend

“keywording” is done in Legacy all the time: subclips, adding notes, making bins. All these tools in Legacy are “keywording”.

And for me going through large amounts of footage by double clicking every single file has always been a problem. Skimming is just so much more convenient you only realize its benefit once you worked with it and then stepped back to another NLE.

Now let´s assume that would be as fast and convenient, what if you need lots of In-Out that you want to use later and you might also want to “keyword / subclip” a bunch of the clips? You can mark parts of your timeline, but you can also set markers in a skimmable event. It is hard to explain, but is simply a very different way of working than anything FCP7 offers in any way.

If you don´t have unscripted stuff, you might not mind. But even then…maybe the director wants some B-Cut out of 14 takes……..

Since the plug-in I had doesn´t do this anymore I have a workaround if it was one camera….

Enter Multicam, throw all he clips in there and let them be arranged by timecode.
Set the timeline Timcode to start with the first clip´s timecode.
now drop a timecode generator and render it out.

import again and remove all the black-holes.
