  • To mask an object in a video clip you have to use the bezier tool. You will then need to track the object so the mask will stay over the object. You may also need to adjust the mask over time to keep the object hidden. Once you are satisfied with the mask, you would export the sequence as an Animation. The settings in the animation export will allow the alpha channel to be maintained.

Create a mask that will cover the logo and the move the key off the logo over a 3 sec duration. It will cause the logo to reveal over a 3 second duration.

This effect is fairly easy to achieve. It is not a plug in but here is a tutorial that will show you the basics. https://www.motionsmarts.com/tutorials/reflection/reflection1.html

October 8, 2008 at 7:03 pm in reply to: ‘Compositions’ in Motion?

[Jonathan Capra] “I have a Motion project that moves a bunch of Drop Zones around in a motion. I want to output 4 or 5 different versions of this animation with different video in the drop zones.”

If you are using Drop Zones, you create the first version by inserting your clips in the drop zone, then output to a self-contained movie. Replace the clips in the drop zone with your version 2 clips, output to self contained movie. Repeat for each version.

With Motion’s drop zones, you can create a single Motion project and simply replace the clips to get different finished version. The thing to remember is that once you change out the clips, you have lost that version.

October 7, 2008 at 3:46 pm in reply to: Out Of Sync Issues

[Paul Jones] “Additionally, I have just exported using Compressor and the MPEG2 files for DVD are still 5 frames out of sync !”

Does it start in sync and by the end of the timeline it is out of sync by 5 frames? Or is it out by 5 frames the entire timeline?

    [Lawrence Robbin]
Any recommendation for a free flash encoder?”

I prefer open source encoders rather than any other. The one I use frequently is Riva FLV Encoder. Do a google search for it, you can download it . . .

Make sure the timeline and the audio tracks are set to the same frequency. Music tracks can often be 44kHz and some tracks from video can even be 32kHz. Make sure you timeline settings (click in the timeline and the click Sequence>Settings) and your audio settings match.

October 6, 2008 at 6:39 pm in reply to: Setting up a routine?

If you shoot with a camera that captures to solid state, like the P2 or the EX2/3, you can “edit” while you shoot and only import the clips that you want to use. It will actually create individual movie files that you can import without having to set in/out points (as long as you import the entire clip).

October 6, 2008 at 12:52 pm in reply to: XD Cam HD – Did I mess up?

We use XD Cam HD for all of our productions. We have over 50 episodes shot with XDCam. We always digitize our footage to ProRes 422(HQ). There is not quality loss and you go from 1440 x 1080 to 1920 x 1080. You get a great picture with Pro Res.

To produce a BetaCam chase tape you will have to downconvert. We use our Kona3 cards to do all of our upconvert/downconvert. Our workflow for this is to play our HD timeline through the Kona3 and it will downconvert to SD. Patch the workstation to the deck and Kona will take care of the conversion with no audio sync issues.

    Hope this helps.
