First thing to do is trash your preferences and export again. Sometimes the preferences get corrupted and it will cause FCP to do strange things. At the sign of oddities, trash preferences. That should resolve a significant amount of odd FCP behaviors.

This is probably the wrong place to post this question. You will find few Premiere users who would be able to address your specific issue. Check out the Adobe Premiere forum for users who may be more familiar with you issue.

[Silvano de Gennaro] “I cannot see it in the library tag.”

Which Motion effect are you using and what element are you wanting to replace?

October 16, 2008 at 5:58 pm in reply to: HDV to Broadcast

[Omar Estrada] “But now I´ve been asked to deliver a version for TV Broadcasting and I´m kind of stuck”

In order to fulfill this request, you will need to know what channel it is being sent to for broadcast. Each channel has its own set of criteria and it must be adhered to. The channels production guidelines will tell you about the slate, bars, tone, amount of black, etc. Will the station accept HD format or only SD? You will have to output to their tape requirements.

Bottom line is you need to know alot more information before a workflow can be prescribed or suggested.

October 15, 2008 at 1:29 am in reply to: Concerning a sort of “half-dissolve”

If I understand you request correctly. One simple way to achieve this look is to place the clip you want to appear in track two and the main clip in track one. Using your opacity in the motion tab, you will need to key frame the “dissolve.” Set the opacity to 0 on clip in track two and set a keyframe. Move the play head forward 20 frames and set a keyframe and set the opacity to 50 (whatever level gives you the look you want). Move your playhead forward to about 20 frames from the end and set a key frame. Move to the end of the clip and set a final key frame and set the opacity to 0.

There are other ways using mask that might look better, depending on how you video is shot, but this should get the look.

October 15, 2008 at 12:54 am in reply to: How do you blur a license plate on a moving car?

The down and dirty explanation is to place two copies of the clip into your sequence, one on top of the other. On the lower clip add a gausian blur and on the top track at a matte over the license plate or t-shirt logo. Do a motion tracking on the matte to follow the car or t-shirt. Feather the edge of the matte a bit and you should have a good effect.

October 14, 2008 at 12:17 pm in reply to: Making SUB CLIPS just like Premiere (or at least easier)

Have you considered making subclips from the larger media files? By loading the clip into the viewer, you can set an in/out point and then by hitting Cmd-U you create a subclip in the browser. This will function as its own clip without multiplying the amount of storage you use. It might be a useful workflow when using larger chunks of media.

I had the logo in a group and the scribble mark in a separate group. In the scribble group, I used the pen tool and made a scribble mark across the logo to cover it completely. I used the options in the inspector to make the line thick enough to cover the space completely. I then adjusted the key frames on First Point Offset and Last Point Offset to make it look like the scribble was moving across the screen.

I then created a mask using the bezier mask tool to cover the logo. I made sure the leading edge was angled roughly to match the angle of the scribble marks. I then animated the position of the mask from left to right to reveal the logo as the scribble mark moved along the logo.

I hope this helps. I will upload a video tutorial of this on my website when I get the chance today. I will post here when it is live.

Here is a quick and rough sample of using an animated mask and the pen tool.
