[John Fishback] “Both these examples can be done in Motion. It is a 3-D app. “

That’s not quite true. Motion is a 2.5 D app, not fully 3D. It can create and manipulate 2D surfaces in 3D space. AE is the same, except it can support the import of true 3D models with the use of the third party plugin, 3D Invigorator from Zaxwerks.

The first video example would be possible in Motion. The second would not, as it contains true 3D text and 3D camera tracking. Motion only has a 2D tacker, so it can’t do true 3D camera motion tracking.

Two good inexpensive 3D tracking/matchmove applications are PFHoe Pro and SynthEyes. They can extract 3D camera movement data from video footage and export camera scene data to 3D applications.

In order to create and render 3D text or objects that could match the 3D camera data, you would need to use a 3D modeling and animation application like Cinema 4D, Maya, 3ds Max, etc.

  • [Nhan Nguyen Dinh] “I have finished Editing (Edit with copy DVCAM from HDCAM SR + EDL Grading etc…)
Now I want to have 2 securitiy storages : Tapes and Hard drives “

On what system did you do your editing?

If the project and media files are still on the original editing system, it would be much faster and simpler to output a self-contained video master file (Quicktime ProRes 422, etc.) from the editing system and save the file to your archive hard drive rather than recapture media from tape.

If the project and media files are no longer on the editing system, then I guess your only choice is to capture from the master tape.

Add another internal drive to you Mac Pro equal in size to your system drive and use Carbon Copy Cloner (free software) to clone your system drive. You can also use CCC to clone your external hard drives.

Did you back up the contents of the SxS cards, by which I mean the original BPAV folders? This is the preferred way to archive SxS cards in case you need to edit their contents in another NLE in the future. If you have the BPAV folders, give them to your client.

FCP imports XDCAM footage differently than Vegas. FCP uses a utility called Log and Transfer to open the BPAV folders and rewrap the contents into Quicktime files. If you didn’t save the BPAV folders, then others on this forum may have suggestions how to deliver usable files to your client.

April 29, 2010 at 12:47 am in reply to: Export HD movie to be viewed on Projector

It’s less important to know what the movie will be viewed on and more important to know what will be playing the video. What will be connected to the projector? A DVD player? A computer? A video tape machine of some form? What is the display resolution of the projector? Is it a full HD projector, i.e. a native 1920×1080 16:9 projector, or a common multimedia projector (4:3 aspect 1024×768 or 1280×1024)? Please provide us with more information.

If the playback device will be a computer, then use Compressor to create a high quality full-resolution Quicktime movie using the h.264 codec. If the projector isn’t full 1920×1080 HD, then you might consider scaling the output down to 1280×720 or even 1024×576. Turn on frame controls in Compressor’s inspector window and choose high quality resizing. If your source movie is interlaced (1080i), make sure that progressive output is enabled and select medium quality deinterlacing . If this is your first time using Compressor, then it’s time to read the manual.

Be sure to test the movie before your event to make sure that the computer it’s being played on is fast enough to play back the movie without stuttering or having other issues. When you play back the movie on the computer using Quicktime Player, enable full screen playback.

In what format was your SD footage shot (i.e. DV/DVCAM, DVCPRO, DVCPRO 50, Betacam SP, Digital Betacam, VHS, etc.)?

    Hopefully the final update:

After powering off the system, the field order has subsequently been correct for 720×480 material displayed using the 720×486 output setting, so apparently the required field shift is being applied.

[Fred Jodry] ” If we read Alan`s inquiry again carefully, I seem to remember that he`s asking about an RGB- style input, maybe Pr, Pb, Y”

Exactly. I was asking specifically about the Y, Pb, Pr component video output/input of the card and monitor, respectively.

    Another update:

After installing a Pro Apps update and restarting, the Intensity is displaying the 720×480 field order incorrectly again. Reinstalling the latest Intensity driver again didn’t fix it.

    Ugh.
