Hi, I have this question for this workflow,

SD footage – edit – send to color – grade

Should I capture footage as SD
    edit done,
duplicate this sequence and render it as Apple ProRes 422 / 10bit
    send to color – grade.

or should I capture all my SD footage as Apple ProRes 422 / 10bit
    and edit with this ?

    Thanks!!

If you have the option of capturing to a common format to start with, do it. It saves lots of hassles.

8 or 10 bit Uncompressed or Apple ProRes 422 (not HQ) would be excellent choices for SD material.

    Hi Rui,
If your original format is 8b 420/411,you will find advantages in capturing through a video card.
The video card introduce some Chroma filtering that will improve the quality of the picture. You can get similar Chroma filtering in FC or in Color (Nattress filters), but it’s takes time. With the capture card, you get it in RT.

In what format was your SD footage shot (i.e. DV/DVCAM, DVCPRO, DVCPRO 50, Betacam SP, Digital Betacam, VHS, etc.)?

    Rui,
    DVCam PAL is 420.
The only 411 PAL format is DCVCPro25.
