Yikes! We had to change a server, and it appears that some files are missing.

Somebody else sent me an email about “0 KB” showing in the update window but I didn’t know what they meant.

    I’ll post a follow-up message when it’s fixed.

Then you don’t have a full install, or maybe you have 3.0 from when before pIRender was included? But how do you render the large images in 3.0 if you don’t have pIRender?

If you can render a large output size in 3.0, then you should be able to do it in 3.0.4 too — pIRender will never be used. So you must be doing something differently.

Did you turn off the “use new method of loading AVIs” option? When you do that, AVIs in 3.0.4 load exactly the same way they did in 3.0.

You said “But the principal problem is the impossibility to work with a Background Images. Too slow to scroll the timeline” but I still don’t know what version you’re talking about exactly. Is it both versions? 3.0.4 only?

particleIllusion 3.0 has 2 exe files too, one for pI3, one for pIR. The difference is that with 3.0.4 pIR will be called automatically when the output is too large for pI3. When using 3.0, you can’t render full-size — you’ll need to launch pIR manually.

In pI3 3.0.4, open the Preferences, then uncheck the “use new method of loading AVIs” option. You should have the same performance with AVIs as you do with 3.0.

Sorry, but I still don’t know if you mean particleIllusion or pIllusionRender.

I’m not sure why you’re seeing your bg image at all — particleIllusion should only be creating the alpha channel using the particles (it does not use the bg image alpha).

I suggest turning off the bg image then rendering, then composite with your bg image in another application.

It’s in the docs, isn’t it? Just create an image sequence with the name something like: image0001.png, image0002.png, etc.

Are you talking about pIllusionRender or particleIllusion itself? If hardware acceleration works in 3.0, it should work in 3.0.4 too in particleIllusion. If it doesn’t, you need to tell me what’s not working. Try a 640 x 480 project and see if it works. If it does, then it’s probably a pIRender problem.

If you need to turn off hardware acceleration in pIRender I suggest using it only for final render — render in pI3 at lower zoom (50% for instance) so that pIRender is never launched, until the final render.

On my laptop I get 4.7 fps with a 1920 x 1080 PNG image sequence. Not blazingly fast, but not super slow either.

If you’re skipping frames, I suggest using an image sequence instead of an AVI/WMV. With an image sequence (numbered correctly) you’ll never skip frames.

Are you saying you disabled hardware acceleration and now it’s very slow? That’s exactly what I would expect.

Or are you saying that when you use 3.0.4 you must disable hardware acceleration in order for it to work?

I don’t think there should be a difference between 3.0 and 3.0.4 in terms of hardware acceleration. If hardware acceleration works on 3.0 it should work fine on 3.0.4 too. Have you downloaded the latest video drivers for your graphics card?

Unless your desktop resolution is larger than 1920×1080, you won’t be able to get 1920×1080 output from SE. It requires a visible window to render in.

particleIllusion 3.0 won’t have that problem since it includes the standalone renderer which can handle larger sizes (and is used automatically when needed).
