Yes, it is truly lossless. It’s RLE compression.

You can enable compression for TGAs which will help with this. Make sure the “compression” option is checked in the output options dialog. TGA compression is lossless, meaning there is no quality loss.

The easiest way to change the snow from white to grey or black is using the tint color. First, select ‘tint strength’ in the hierarcy, and set it to 50% or so. Then open the properties dialog for the emitter and click the tint color box, then select black. You can then adjust the tint strength to get the level of black you want.

You can zip it and email it to support at wondertouch dot com. I’ll make it available to people.

What codec are you choosing? That can make all the difference.

Also, decrease the emission angle from 360 to 90 or less, then adjust the angle to 90 (for straight up).

Crash: Are you using the latest version? 3.0.1 OS X, 3.0.1a Windows. Updates on the downloads page.

Are you on OS X or Windows? Can you zip and send the project file to support at wondertouch dot com?

To slow things down in that emitter (and in many emitters) velocity is not always the answer. After reducing velocity, try increasing “Life”. Note that an increase in life should usually be followed by a decrease in “Number” — since particles are living longer, fewer of them are needed.

There is no “looping” functiom, but you can create a seamless loop folling this tutorial, which involves crossfading a clip into a copy of itself:

If I remember correctly, Vegas has an option to create an “OpenDML” AVI — you have to uncheck this option in order to create an AVI that pIllusion can use.

I thought this was answered already?

There is no way to have the smoke particles “attact” and form the text. Elvis said that you’d have to use 2 emitters — one for the rising smoke, one for the text, but it sounds like that’s not the answer you’re looking for.

You may be able to do it by creating the effect in reverse though, but it would be tricky — not something you could do as a newbie with particleIllusion. It seems like you could use an area emitter mask image to define the text — the particles would be created here. Then make the particles fall over time, starting from one end… but that probably won’t work, because I don’t know how you’d get the falling smoke into a “stream”. Maybe with forces? Anyway, then you’d reverse the frames after rendering to make it appear the smoke is rising and forming the text.
