Unfortunately particleIllusion for Windows (both 3.0 and SE) does not
support DV AVI files directly at this time. That means that you need to
    either:

    1) Install a standalone DV codec such as the Mainconcept DV codec or the
Panasonic DV codec. Do a websearch for “Panasonic DV codec” and you’ll find
several sites that have that free codec with instructions for installing.

    2) Convert your DV AVIs into a non-DV format such as DivX or uncompressed
AVI. This conversion would have to be done with another application. I’ve
checked into Rad Video Tools (https://www.radgametools.com), and it’s
perfect. Converts between several different formats, but the important thing
here is it will convert your DV AVI to another AVI format. It’s free.

This is funny. I was using the trial version of PI a couple of months ago. I imported an uncompressed AVI file rendered by Sony Vegas and it worked fine. I decided to mess around with PI today and I ran into the same problem but I did not do anyting different than I did the 1st time. Why is that?

If I remember correctly, Vegas has an option to create an “OpenDML” AVI — you have to uncheck this option in order to create an AVI that pIllusion can use.
