  • I really can’t figure out from this what the problem is. Is this more than one problem?

If you’re getting crashes in pI on Windows, 95% of the time it’s a video driver issue. Download an updated video driver directly from your card manufacturer’s website. The “error creating texture” message tells me it’s an OpenGL problem too, which is solved by getting an updated video driver.

If you’re saying that you r-click and get no context menu, that’s not a pI issue — that’s a Windows issue.

Saving new projects — is it the location you’re choosing? Try always saving to your Documents folder, or a folder inside that.

I was hoping more suggestions would come in, or people would “second” some of your ideas. I do appreciate it though Graham!

I’m not sure about the shield thing… anybody know what that is? A Win7 security thing I think.

Also, the thumbnails in the “Load Library” dialog do not work in Windows 7. Something fundamental in the dialog class changed and broke that. Sorry.

The CD version is very much out of date now — I suggest just installing from the download version so you have the latest.

You can get all of the emitter libraries using the “check for updates” feature.

September 26, 2012 at 8:25 pm in reply to: Longer lasting clouds?

Sorry for the delay — I finally got the chance to look into this, and it’s weird.

I’m using the “clouds 3” emitter from the “nature_01” library, and for some reason in Vegas it does “reset” at 4 seconds. I suspected it was a bug having to do with “preload frames” being non-zero (you can’t access that setting in pIOFX, only pI3), but other emitters with non-zero preload don’t have the same problem.

So right now I don’t have a good answer, unless it is to use different cloud emitters… maybe one of the “storm” emitters from the most recent “summer” library might work if you tweak them a bit?

I’ll see if I can figure out anything else that would cause that “reset”, but it certainly looks like a bug.

You have to be showing a graph that has more than one point for “delete” to be available, and “move point” doesn’t work for the first data point of some graphs (like position)

R-click in the graph window and “delete”. There is a key shortcut for deleting the selected graph data key too… Cmd+D maybe?

September 19, 2012 at 2:07 pm in reply to: Particle Illusion hanging constantly

Just saying “2 or 3 emitters” doesn’t tell me anything, as some emitters create 100 particles, while others create many thousands. Are the emitters needed for all 900 frames? If you’re working toward the end of the frame range, any change results in all of the particles being recalculated from frame 1 — which as you’ve seen can take some time (hence the hang).

I suggest breaking your project up into shorter pieces if possible. Also, be aware that converting an emitter into anything but a point emitter can *really* multiply the number of particles that are created — especially an area emitter. Set the “number” to 10% or lower in that case and see if it helps.

  • Daniel — what are you trying to do exactly? You want your particles to show up on top of an image or video in AE?

There are August (Summer) emitters there. Refresh your browser page?
