The graph window does need a makeover, I’ll be the first to admit that.

And I think you’re right about non-linear motion speeds — there’s no easy way to do it (other than using “record position”) right now.

You might be able to use After Effects to create the “eased” position keys you want, then import the position data into particleIllusion, but I’m not sure if that would work (how to get the “ease” info baked into the keyframe positions in AE).

We’re working on both of these things for 4.0 (which you won’t be seeing for quite a while).

You can install on multiple computers but only if 1) you personally own the computers 2) you will be the only one using particleIllusion on the computers.

They must be on the same layer as the emitter.

Other than that they should work fine in their default states.

Very tough to do. You may be able to fake it by animating “zoom” over a few frames and if the emitter uses “emit at points”. Takes a lot of tweaking though, since you have to make sure that the particles only get added once along the line (and don’t cycle over again at the start of the line). If you do it right you’ll get small particles at one of the line, and larger particles at the other end.

Doing what you said (0 at frame 1, 1 at some high frame value) is the right start, but the particle “velocity over life” can be reduced too.

Because of the way that forces (and “weight”) are implemented right now “velocity over life” affects both of these.

  • Windows or Mac? If Windows, you need to get the latest version of the demo, which is 3.0.3.

If Mac, same thing — make sure you have the latest demo version (which is 3.0.6 on Mac).

Motion blur applies to particles only. The background image is not modified.

Strange, it works fine for me. I can scrub the frame and use arrow keys and it never “jumbles”.

Is the emitter unmodified? Are there other emitters in the project? Try a simple case of only that emitter, and don’t modify anything and see if it still does it. If it does, I’m not sure why, unless the emitter got changed in the library.

The only time I’ve seen “jumbles” is when preload frames is non-zero with some sorts of emitters.

If you still have the problem with the single unmodified emitter, save a project file, zip it, and email it to wondertouch support.

February 16, 2008 at 12:30 pm in reply to: Video being shrunk, need help please.

What is the framerate of the original video? What is the project framerate in particleIllusion? If they don’t match, that would explain it.

When you hit the “play” button in particleIllusion, does the movie look correct (but it probably won’t be playing fullspeed)?

In the Preferences dialog, is the “use new method for loading AVIs” option checked or unchecked? (Try changing it)

If all else fails, just turn off the bg image and render just the particles with an alpha channel, then composite over your movie in another app (since you need to use another app to put the audio back anyway).

Are you using the latest version? Check the “updates” page on our site.

RAM is not the issue for this “jumble”.
