well let’s just say my freakout is at an end. If they really do go cloud, being honest – I’m buying it, or renting it. What else am I going to do, start using X for real? Properly learn avid? And me half an AE guy?
let’s be serious.Plus, in the end, I’m basically just itching like crazy to get my hands on that suite and PPro7 and speedgrade, audition, prelude, start figuring out logging workflow, mess about with C4D in AE, SG grading round tripping, try out the retooled conform plug-in – all that stuff.

yes – but to be precise about this – if you rent that Alexa, the product of your work is unbundled. The camera shot it clean out.
as in – here, in this case, the personal creative output is intrinsically tied to the originating hardware. ah but it’s not hardware is it?
it’s software? the mechanisms of the adobe software are entirely dissimilar to the optics, f-stops, shutter,
image adjustment, encoding and electronics originating content off the Alexa right?Right?
tools – the origination and ownership – of entirely owned creative content in a software subscription model are a little murky.
Alexa renters don’t end up with open ended Alexa watermarks.

But Tim – isn’t it the exact opppsite? they have me on a subscription hook – if i want to keep cutting, i pay them every month no matter if the update amounts to group folder colour icons.
With perp.license upgrades, with a mature product – they’ve got to sell you that they are advancing and so should you.
Two years into CC – with all the cleint project material built up, you’re going to keep paying regardless -you have to – just to access all the assets you’ve built up to that point. It’s you know – cable subscription.
I’m not surprised they want to go there. But it fundamentally alters the relationship, and if they completely remove perpetual licensing, its fair to draw inference about how they want this to work out – and how much behind the eight ball we will all be in two years. At that point they’ve got us all on the hook.
I don’t know about you but I didn’t go to FCStudio 3 immediately at all. many moons ago I stayed with an early iteration of PS for a very long time. Ditto a windows copy of AE 4.1.
Granted I’m unlikely to do either thing now. But saying that adobe getting us all on a hire purchase subscription hook is going to fundamentally motivate them to over perform on upgrades – when that entire motivator would be gone – strikes me as a wee bit of a non-sequitur.
three years in on a full market hire purchase hook, I’d say they they could start taking it easy.

exactly – I want to give them money every year for a really really long time and go out and eulogise the living hell out of premiere, so its mostly all I ever have to edit on.
I just don’t think I’m ready to go hire purchase. Lots of people have made really good points about this – and in truth I’m occasionally swayed.
Lead me with carrots and who knows where I’ll end up. It’s just the notion of a perpetual license shut off and what that would imply in terms of long term motivation at the board level that would freak me completely out.
As you say – adobe have effectively worked miracles over these two releases – particularly in premiere – AE is completely hulked out as well.
carrots. thats all it will take – carrots and a few product cycles. better to lead a child with sugar and all that.
