The statement to Tom Daigon on the adobe forums. Another adobe rep came and said to basically dis-regard that.
that’s the only statement from adobe that I know of.
I am going headless chicken here but I’m serious:
I want my perpetual license annual upgrade – I’m self employed and I’ve got enough direct debits and council tax, dsl, line rental, stuff going on.there is no way in hell my main toolset is going into that swamp – what if I want to change banks? (UK Gov are about to make that much easier)
What if I’m in the middle of a job, what if adobe customer rep gets it wrong when I go to update the details? Or the bank messes up the DD transfer? The idea that my primary toolset is caught up in that potential web of crap is a non-starter.

April 17, 2013 at 4:13 pm in reply to: **Danger Will Robinson** **Danger Will Robinson**[Tim Kolb] “Frankly, in sheer revenue terms, Adobe is trading revenue for stability as many of us upgrade every release anyway. “
I think that’s wrong isn’t it? Your initial purchase outlay is offset by the lower yearly upgrade fee of around 350 dollars per annum for Prod. Premium –
leaving aside the first year deal, with creative cloud, you are looking at at 600 dollars a year and rising for as long as you use the software –
that differential pretty quickly eats up what they lost in the initial suite purchase lump sum by going hire purchase.
Also they now own all the software. It’s not tin foil hat per se – I’m just not comfortable at the notion they could push the customer base to hire purchase
as hard as it sounds they are about to.It’s psychological as much as anything, but the idea that my core tool set, that feeds and clothes me, is subject to the vagaries of english banks, monthly direct debits, reliable internet, no fouls up in monthly processing, that’s just not a comfortable prospect.
As Groucho Marx once said “A plumber doesn’t rent his pliers every four weeks – that would be insane.”

they took that back – if you mean the statement to Tom? That was rescinded.

April 17, 2013 at 3:18 pm in reply to: **Danger Will Robinson** **Danger Will Robinson**[Walter Soyka] “That’s kind of how the whole thing works. When you pay for a month, they validate your license for the month. If you don’t pay the next month, last month’s license naturally expires and they don’t re-authorize a new one.
“that is no way to live frankly. I challenge anyone making their living in post to say they actually like the sound of that.

April 17, 2013 at 2:43 pm in reply to: **Danger Will Robinson** **Danger Will Robinson**the statements cited by Peters are not rumour or supposition – that was a flat out “creative cloud is your only option here” They were told that twice.
But as you say – maybe better suited for the headless chicken forum. Still thought it was worth citing. And to be fair – this isn’t a feature request – its kind of astonishment.

April 17, 2013 at 2:38 pm in reply to: **Danger Will Robinson** **Danger Will Robinson**nope – you still own 6. Dennis clarified that, and in a way – seeing as how upgrade pricing expires after a single version now (or will by next rev) – you are pretty much on the treadmill either way.
But if, as you say, you shift in terms of what you are at at some point – all the work built up with the suite to that point is always still accessible to you, if you own the software – because that software fundamentally belongs to you.
If you go with the cloud – adobe control paid access to your files and creative work in perpetuity. I find that a very uncomfortable proposition somehow.
Plumbers don’t rent their pliers. they own their toolbox for good reason – the tools represent their livelihood.

thats basically true – just don’t spend too much time trying to patch tracks – that mess from 6 is totally gone.
Well worth getting into the general swing of the media browser, footage settings, clip properties, keyframing, favoured layout, all the general punch the cushions stuff.
For instance – its not immediately apparent where the clip onscreen transform controls are – you activate them with a wee toggle in the clip effect properties – stuff like that.
But if you’re buying the suite – if you still can -wait for 7.

April 16, 2013 at 6:28 pm in reply to: Could Creative Cloud discourage plugin developers from embracing Premiere?**edit** this was totally better answered above*
well the fact that magic bullet looks was dead in the water for four or five months, along with many other plug-ins with no response or acknowledgement from Apple springs to mind.
there’s this bit i’d just paste in from below conversation:
[Walter Soyka] “FCPX users may have needs for FxF/BCC/Sapphire, but may find those needs better-filled in another host like Ae anyway.”
[Oliver Peters] Agreed. Their performance is terrible in FCP X versus AE. I really don’t consider X to be a very good host for effects, though it has an edge with transitions. The various stylized “look” effects do function reasonably well within X as long as they are Apple’s.
Also – there is an issue considering what kind of GUIs the plugins can represent – sometimes it leaves only really clumsy looking implementations – say where MB LOOKS controller/booter to the full interface can only exist as a burn in drop over on the video itself, that you have to turn on and off in the inspector.
that stuff is just stupid. the inspector is extremely limited in the kind of controls you can put in there. forget about putting an S curve tone controller in there.
Or a colorista wheel. Both of those are good to go in Premiere for instance.https://vimeo.com/user1590967/videos http://www.ogallchoir.net promo producer/editor.grading/motion graphics
