this is on a pretty large scale tho – apple provided comprehensive Q+A time with senior personnel for all the last major iOS revisions to allow for communication channels with developers – but for the entire dependent editing community, they chose broad scale blind side PR.
the essential problem here is that apple view the professional products community as consumers – which we are not – we employ their software with care as a business engine, both singularly and as business entities.
we are not here to be simply wowed, and even if the demo wasn’t for us, we surely deserve a quiet follow up to simply know what is going on.http://www.ogallchoir.net

hey look sure – they’re the home of the digital humanities – and this is a play to give film making tools on an unprecedented scale –
again: the announcement hit USA today for god’s sake – this cultural tool dissemination goes to their fibre, and more power to them.that’s all *completely* dandy – I.. just, oh god i just want the manual, or some half detailed walkthroughs before june.

also – this nesting looks savage – proof meet pudding, but the kind of collapsing going on looks light years away from what I’m used to, as a core refined feature, if it does as it looks, I would actually use it instinctively, something I never did in previous versions.

let me qualify that – I get apple’s reasons, they’re very real – the announcement hit USA today – (good god, avid weeps) –
but as to your specifics -I think simon ubsdell below lays out some similar case scenarios, chew fat some p’raps.
as a side note: Apple: release all documentation in…. looks at watch.

I do broadcast promos, corporate stuff and some music cut stuff for design houses, a wee bit of long form..
for me:
*OMF and XML (for me the xml is automatic duck to AE on the cheap) no OMF is a bit of a dealbreaker..
*numbered tracks that are lockable, deactivatable(?) for GFX etc
*A dedicated clip viewer so that I can..
*Operate the multiclip for the 2 camera IV’s in corporate things and well frankly, set decent in out points..
for me the multi clip is a real live absolute necessity.
*and same as you – I need to be able to swap stuff quickly between multiple versions/durations – I guess i’m saying preferably tabs, but it looks like we have the discreet edit version of that, which looks like a bit of an intermediate bus station…..I’m the same on post – I wouldn’t likely do it in the app, I’ll generally XML my way to AE, and do shot to shot with masks dodge and burn, probably some class of magic bullet crunching the shots together globally with post design elements being fed to me with all then toddling back out to FCP as a baked out final picture master – that then meets the stereo mix down from the audiopost house, and then I go to the pub…

no absolutely – and besides, I’d be very curious to see the kind of habits I develop with b-roll having compound clips (which looks like nesting that just works) and auditioning – i think apple have thought very hard there. the timeline definitely needs to be fragile and responsive at times, but having a muscular linked timeline as a keystroke on/off could work out very nicely.

DVD’s : keep using encore, its better than DVD studio pro anyway
SHAKE: yep, thats a total pisser. there is a corpse there to steal organs from – probably too late now tho. so yes – wanker’s there.
COLOUR: it’s not gone – Apple basically said they just haven’t released the other software yet – I’m willing to bet colour is there. As is Motion.
TAPE LAYOFF: its there there’s even an icon for it. You can still master to tape, you can still control a tape deck via rs 422.

man I have read waaay to many blogs at this point – it really is.. a guy told a guy, with the exception of the conversation at kenstone, that seems quite firm. The other references to XML are coming from conference participants who are saying, on their blogs, that they received certain assurances after the event, the XML thing has come up twice..
If you want to harvest the same – I would RSS feed https://www.artoftheguillotine.com/ : there are about 20 or 30 separate blog posting links referenced there at this point – its satisfying going through them – at the end of it you’ll have read about everything written about FCPX, then there’s the kenstone forums, then there’s here.
I take the point on XML – I don’t see how an intelligible XML or OMF file can incorporate compound clips, but then for master output it doesn’t break my brain to consider exploding the compound clip and then flattening it to V1 A1 A2 – or indeed, pre-rendering it – apple may have been good enough to offer that functionality. Either way I nearly always have to clean up my timeline considerably for OMF export as a matter of neatness. Ditto XML to get it into AE, dealing with compound clips would just become a part of the clean up no?
(in all this I am presuming that I can invoke numbered tracks, that the controls just pop out from timeline left much like the solo audio controls do at the moment – only in this case I get paste assignment locking etc)http://www.ogallchoir.net

yes – all of them, I can’t think of a serious post house in london that wouldn’t throw FCP out the window and curse apple’s name for eternity if they did something that destructive to existing workflows.
It would like, go down in infamy. That’s why I’m pretty sure apple can’t be that crazy – for the sake of a few features, it doesn’t make sense.
