    no hey steve –

I’m making a broad generalisation about the future market – not any professional individual here and now – there’s a meme that this product is going to gain such adoption from an as yet unseen new base that it will wash back into the broader professional milieu in a few years time – I’m only calling *that* into question – not a single person here. there are indeed people like yourself putting real time into this application and fair ball.
..was genuinely making a different point about the supposed product trajectory.

[Walter Soyka] “DRW’s question acknowledges that FCPX has been disruptive — but the question is, are the benefits of that disruption worth its cost?”

yes. Its a very good and simple question.

I do think bill, that the crazy ones here were the Ubillos lead software engineers in apple.

crazy isn’t always judicious or good. not with a standing industry mainstay. Hubris is crazy and people really seem not to be taking the apple medicine here?
Its chugging away on the appstore, as niche pages might, but as an editing platform, this thing feels more than a tad dead in the water.
Its a dodo with a bitter vengeance in soho.

outside of mythical unicorn age of aquarius single new adopters, do we have any signature adoption of this editing system that anyone can call to? at any scale?

why should anyone entering into editing invest real training time in what is starting to look, at least to me, as a bit of a weird apple curio?

Does anyone remember the Edius judgement editor with the 3D timeline?

avoiding it, avoiding it, avoiding it.

those I know with avid at their fingertips are *lording* it over the rest of us now I can tell you.

    Lording.

January – new years and all. Full new kit bought at that point… and then i will bite that 30 day hell trial marathon bullet.

premiere’s basically fine tho. ish. familiar but a wee tad rough mind you.

My thoughts turn mostly to adobe’s ability to execute PR6 and find themselves a native prores style delivery codec.
I think they really need to do that? the native timeline’s grand, but they need a functional prores delivery codec of some sort.

Me and the many hordes are basically banking on a major PR6 at this point.

I more or less think FCPX is aperture, with all the implications that follow.

there was an interesting thread down there where adherents said what they thought was going to happen to multiclip – some of the booster solutions were odd to read.

If FCPX can’t start thinking independently and clearly as a non linear editor, if it cannot begin to problem solve its own, created problems, if it’s completely backed into the total weirdo corner with magnetic timelines, media that cannot reconnect because it’s on an event basis, haywire autosave, a colour corrector built out of a square, a single monolithic bin to represent all assets…

if FCPX is, in fact, an awful lot like what it looks like – a curly red haired Ubillos step child stamping its foot saying “I’m SMMart!!!” – well then its dead.
    dead as dead ever was.

and god knows its dying. This place may yet be its very last echo chamber. There are no mythical part time snowboarders getting on board in droves, there is no industry pickup, no london shop will touch it, automatic duck just fled, and our roundtrip to FCP is now, weirdly, via a random stallion colour corrector. or CatDV.

    marsh. sinking.

i am the four year old – I’m throwing my toys out of the pram.

apple have not produced an editing system. it was not built by editors, editors are on record saying their advice was ignored, a half decade FCP engineer confirms that professional practices were completely jettisoned in apple’s thinking –

    https://sachin.posterous.com/why-apple-built-final-cut-pro-x

they, apple, made a profit play for a pagemaker video market, and in so doing comprehensively destroyed the professional foundation that was FCP studio.

FCP is dead. we are, waiting for godot style, staring blankly at a soon to be 99 bucks HD imovie. god knows nobody ever used motion. why would we care that its messed up all into this stupid new imovie thing? why would anyone care about either messed up application now? All we ever cared about was FCP as was really – that and colour. shake before they killed it. Its just a whale graveyard of dead professional bones at apple. there is no pro apps anymore. we’re whistling past the graveyard.

FCP is truly dead. As john Gruber puts it – we’ve got an appstore Imovie extreme.

there is no industry or professional pickup. FCP as we understood it is dead. God knows its a black dead letter in London.

Its dead because apple comprehensively killed it – its done.

    well, no. I’m still curmudgeonly.

    CUUURRRmuddgeeooonnlllyy

This application is dead in the water isn’t it?
I mean isn’t this thing just floating dead in the pond?
nevermind that shake, soundtrack pro, dvd studio and colour are out back with their necks wrung but..

this release completely killed the existing FCP eco-system, the trainers like steve martin are increasingly desperate in their appearances, wes plate is gone and there is little or no adoption from educational, broadcast, or, god love apple – even the snow boarders –
    isn’t it dead?

Its not an editing system – its a software mess of GTD tagging, iphoto events, imovie timelines, motion templates – its not an editing system.
    Its dead.

In 12 months, i venture from my trash bin – its a 99 dollar throwaway to pick up the video pagemaker market.

FCP is dead. Our whole entire thing is dead.

and now I have to learn avid. and so thank you cruel fates.

  • i know – like everyone says – if FCPX does one thing, FCPX reminds you that you actually have to know and be able to execute on the other editing systems within about 12 to 14 months or face peril.

premiere I’m ok with so far, its more or less a puddle jump largely, although there is some weird (by which he means new) stuff there. Am loving the keyframe editing though – proper nice old style AE inline timeline stretchable keyframe beziers! I missed you! – makes a huge difference in sultry fades to black I find.
