August 14, 2006 at 5:38 pm in reply to: importing Targa files as sequence of framesHi BNorris – FYI, It’s not necessary to pick the first file in the sequence. Any image is OK, and AE will look to see if any other files before or after have the same name with a different number.
I was always under this impression, until I accidentally chose the wrong frame. This may have been a requirement in older versions ( I think it was), but as recently as AE 6.5 this was no longer an issue.

August 14, 2006 at 5:10 pm in reply to: importing Targa files as sequence of frameson the import dialog (where you navigate to your files), near the bottom, there should be a checkbox for import as TGA sequence.
Select on TGA image in the sequence, and make sure that checkbox is checked.
That should do it.

Check out this tutorial – it’s for creating a flock of birds in AE – but the same principles will work for a butterfly – In fact – I’ve used it many times for that purpose.

August 11, 2006 at 12:34 pm in reply to: Evolving parameters and supplemented by Sound KeysThis is a little outside my area of experties, but I know that you can have sound keys generate values that only build off each other – using the falloff method called None(Integrate)
If you write an expression that says get the values from the evolution keyframes and then add the values from soundkeys so maybe…
1) Set the soundkeys falloff to none
2) add an expression to the evolution effect that says:effect(“Fractal Noise”)(24) + effect(“Sound Keys”)(“Output 1”)
I got this expression by first pickwhipoing the word Evolution, adding a plus (+) and then pickwhipping sound keys’ output 1 property.
this assumes that both the sound keys effect and the fractal noise are on the same layer. If not you have to alter this. But again pickwhipping will write the correct code for you.
Hopefully you can make this look more attractive than what it looked like when I made it.

Really nice work.
Just to add to the rest of the folks here…
I feel like the shot with the butterfly holds too long once it lands. After that there is no real action (other than scale) so it feels like it almost stops.
Have you considered having the buterfly flap it’s wings slightly after it lands – the way butterflies adjust themselves in real life? That would keep it moving.
Again very nice.

nucleo is definately worth the investment. I’m able to render at least twice as fast in most cases.

right. The alpha channel contains the transparency info – so information about what is, what is not, and what is partially transparent is all in there, as a grayscale image.
Open your PNG in photoshop, and then look at the channel pannel and you might see what we’re talking about.
