  • How do I create a tv static interrupt effect?

Okay, so not a straight static effect with noise, thats easy. I want to create a tv effect of having the picture interuppted where the tv image sort of distorts out of focus. Static can be a part of it, but the effect I want is what you see on horror movies when something takes over control of the TV. I know that’s not really descriptive but hopefully you get the idea. How can I create this?

i’m pretty sure there will be some posts on this in the archives…..

maybe try displacement maps – and use weird patterns for the map (maybe fractals) – and animate the displacement amounts real quick. At the same time maybe have a compound blur that uses the same map. and at the same time also animate the hue/saturation and levels.

Digieffects’ Delirium plug-in package has something called “Video malfunction” that’s brilliant.
Buena Software’s Effects Essentials has another one, with a more digital look. Also very good.
